Once i get my second Valenti and a MM stingray, i'm gonna start doing three way clips with my rosoce and those two. Plus i'll be able to do some songs with my band using all three basses to compare how each sits in a mix with the same eq set-up. :)



and evnetually one day when i can play in tune i'm gonna post clips of my Valenti fretless:p

Where' you getting the slick midi tracks?? I think I'll put some recordings together of my basses. Though, I have no fancy recording gear... hrms.

Thanks Sean, I make these midi tracks myself as a backup for a duo gig that I do with a guitarist. It allows us to cover a larger range of material.

As I've said, I'd love to hear others do shootouts of their basses. IMO, it would be cool to have an entire forum dedicated to audio shootouts of basses, strings, preamps, and etc..

BTW, I had a gig last night which required cranking up the levels on the Valenti bass quite a bit. It was interesting that there was a mild amount of high end hiss, nothing horrible, but when I bypassed the Aguilar preamp to just hear the Nordstrand pickups passive, it was absolutely dead quiet even cranked. Very impressive.

Andy, I love the sound samples; you're a fantastic player. It's hard for me to say which bass I prefer. I think both do a great job. :cool:

I have an Aguilar OBP-3 in my main axe and I really like it. I don't feel the need to boost or cut my lows much, I mainly adjust the highs as the song requires. About 95% of the time I'll boost my mids slightly. IMO the OBP-3 has a lot of gain; if I boost any of it's 3 bands too much, I can easily overdrive my amp setup.

I've noticed the exact same thing more than once. It's happening right now with my Lull M5V. I've been gigging and practicing on it for almost 5 months, and it's sound has really opened up.

Here's another clip comparing the two basses. This time, both basses have a little compression, and both have a 4.0 boost at around 2k. I'm randomly comparing the two basses in the mix, so you'll hear some spaces in the music as I alternate basses.

Just messing around...thought some might be interested.
