Don't I see a thumb bar in these pictures. It looks like there is a black, maybe 2 inche thing on the E string side of the pickguard? There has to be some place to put your thumb!

Um, as long as you keep fresh AAs in the bass (you can buy those charger/8 AA rechargeable packs they sell for digital cameras), you can use your wireless all you want. I do it with my guitar Variax all the time. It functions exactly like any normal bass that requires batteries...with the added bonus for those of us who don't mind being plugged in that the bass can be powered by its footswitch.

In fact, if it's like the guitar Variaxes (which I'm pretty sure it is), you can use a 9-volt for a quick fix if you're out of AAs and don't have the footswitch handy.

I've heard rumors from gents who actually played it that Line 6 is working on a 5-string version as well...which makes me happy and sad, since now I'll have to start saving money for the beast if it's available as a 5. I'll just have to have one.

I wonder what it will sound like? I spent quite a while on Saturday playing with a Roland V-bass equipped Alembic belonging to a friend and was very impressed with the sounds. If it wasn't £800 plus fitting I'd be considering it more seriously. I've only had a brief play on a variax guitar but was quite impressed; if Line-6 can keep the price down a bit but supply a similar quality of flexible sounds, they could be onto something.

I'll certainly be wanting to give one a spin!

I like both the looks and the concept. So if the Variax' pickguard is removable, and if they come with a closer-to-P-than-J-neck with tiny frets, I might just want one. If they happend to sound decent, that is.

why would they make a body design that no one here seems to like?

The Line6 website is billing as the "last bass you'll ever need" Uhh... unless you need a six or even a four with 24-fret neck. I'd be curious to see what models they actually include in this thing.
