Hi guys: I have a question about these Varitones. I know a lot of you have raved about them for Jazz drop in, but are they available for use in a P-Bass? yes I searched first and didn't find the answer though I did gleen a lot of info. thanks in advance peace Capt Kirk
Yes. You can buy them separately, from Stellartone, HAS-sound, and a few other makers, and Rawsound will even make you a pre-wired harness to drop in. I have two of the Rawsound ones, and I've heard the other two I mentioned are good but I haven't tried them.
Bongo, what are the selections like on the Rawsound? Seems like it's tougher to come up with 5 varitone settings to fill out a switch for bass that work well in a live setting, than it is for guitar.
They are: 1: good 2: different good 3: useless 4: useless 5: useless It's just a varied selection of high and/or mid cuts, I'm don't know the nominal center frequencies or depth of cut.
Kinda what I figured. About all I can really see in live circumstances is two cap values (there'd be a third but you really don't hear it as that different in a louder band). On guitar it gets cooler because you can get some neat midrange resonance things too, just by combining with coils, for driving distortion. But that can gut a bass role pretty quickly.
