Nuno, you're a sweetheart - make sure you leave early and do so for several days - maybe the whole week...
I use the Velvet Blue set since March, I like them very much. The sound is a lot bigger, more open, the bass resonates much better. I switched from Helicore Hybrid Heavy...
But there's a few things: with arco it's not easy to play, the E string rattles, especially in the first month, and the copper winding makes the fingers dirty all the time.

I just put a set on. WOW! My bass is quite a bit louder, and I can hear the fundamental of each note clearly. These growl like crazy! I was using Spiro Mittles. Gigging tomorrow, Fri, and Sat with them. Looking forward to reporting back. MUCH lower tension, and it is a bit easier to get a fat, round meaty tone from my bass than the Spiros. Much less roll under the fingers than Obligatos. So far, I really like them!
I could see me switching to these permanantly, depending on how long they last.

Where are you playing this weekend? My wife and I will be over in your neck of the woods (mainly to escape the heat!) and maybe we can come out and harrass you.

I love these strings. It's true I often say that after putting on new strings, but these strings could be keepers. It took about two weeks for them to come up to tension, but as they did they just kept sounding better and better. The E was a little floppy at first but now it's no problem.
You notice how in different string threads people often remark that the particular string they are talking about is loud? Spiros are loud, Evahs are loud, Jazzers are loud, D'Addario Pizzicatos are loud, Dominants have a loud fundamental. Well, the Blues really are loud, AND with less tension. I don't think it defies the laws of physics: the ample vibration from the strings shakes the hell out of the bass, causing it to resonate in a way which creates a lot of volume.
They are bright and have great sustain, but in a way that sounds different from steel core strings. Overall the strings sound a little nasal to me, but not in a bad way --it's high midrange, what I used to call "honk" when I played the bass guitar. Since they are not too bottom-heavy, they amplify easily --unlike my experience with Evahs-- in addition to having a very pleasing acoutic sound.
And the low tension is saving me on my long, loud weekly gigs.

The anima has a natural fiber core, silk I believe. The blues have a synthetic fiber core. The animas are a little less bright, and maybe more complex sounding. A little softer feel and/or lower tension.

I mean the difference between the Animas and the original Compas, not the Blues. Or are there no Compas other than the Blues? I find the Velvet website not to be that informative.

I think either one would be fantastic for jump blues. Animas are growlier, Garbos are thumpier. There's a Garbo light too, which I haven't tried. But they are wonderful strings.
What works on one bass doesn't necessarily work on another but taking that as a given, I'm using Garbo E and A with Gamut D and G on one of my basses and the Garbos are just killin' for walking lines. Jump blues would be great on them. They are LOUD with a kickin' punch to them. I've not tried the Garbo D and G though. The E and A matched with guts on top sound amazing.
