That's been his look since maybe 1983. He used to have a huge Afro before the perm.
Should go back to the fro. Yikes!

Verdine can play. He just sometiems doesn't, focussing on his choreography. That simple.
Not only can he play, but in an old interview he said he was schooled on upright bass too...
Nice clip. Thank you for that.
I must say that I am a bit surprised that he can't keep his eye from the neck. Fairly simple songs that he must have played thousands of times.
He's still one of my heroes though.
is he playing through an old Peavey TNT amp?
No worries. If he sells you used strings, you can just boil them. The licking of the fingers though...
I've seen another bass player from that era keep licking his fingers. Must have been a fad.

Maybe he picked it up from Jeff Andrews?
Or maybe I'll have to try some SportKwik -- don't want to become dependent on it, though. What if I have to play and find that I've forgotten it at home?Just mount this to the bass with double stick tape and keep moving: View attachment 781005
It's cool to see Verdine on a Rudy Sarzo Sig and actually playing EWF lines for all of the doubters.
