i wasn't referring to how loud it is (its impossible to tell on that recording). i was looking at where the input and master controls are, and the amp appears to distort very early-on / doesn't appear to have alot of room in its gain structure to play clean.

Given their target audience, that's a good thing.

yeah, i'm not positive but I'd assume this is an amp specifically built to grind, not to be played clean. That seems particularly in keeping with the bands associated with the amp's designers.

I agree with John, it got NASTY FAST.

I would want an amp that when you cranked up the MASTER it got MAJOR LOUD. Then as the INPUT GAIN was cranked up it got toobier. This thing just starts sounding like its playing through an electric fan with SIZZLER CYMBALS bolted to it. Then with just a single 15" speaker it can be turned up all the way? Where's the 225W of TOOBY power? Sorry it ain't making it.

You guys who MISTAKE HEADROOM for volume output just slay me. A lack of headroom is what JohnK is talking about, its the point where the amp starts distorting the waveform of the signal in one of the stages. Having adiquate headroom means the amp has the ability to cleany reproduce a signal without distorting it.

This amp doesn't.

i know it might seem counter-intuitive to some, but these are most definitely marketed toward the stoner metal / hipster-metal (not that any of those bands would call themselves that, but still) / post-hardcore kind of rock bands. on a more mainstream level, think bands like Wolfmother.

How can you guess the real volume by just listening to this recording?
Do you see the camera shaking at medium volume setting?

Overall Volume is much more sensitive to the used cabinet than the amp.
for example: Your SVT used with a single ampeg 15" cab will run out of headroom soon and maybe wont be enough for a louder rock band practice.

im assuming that was done on a camcorder and he had the master and gain at 100% and it was coming through on the speakers of the camcorder. when it gets crazy loud, those crappy cameras will distort all over the place but it didnt when it was cranked like that. if i put a camcorder next to my 810 and VR cranked like that, the camera would just register muff noise, not anything near as clean as that, which means it wasnt loud enough to distort a camera mic.

unless they were using pro video gear and mixed it all clean, but i really doubt that.

I unfortunately have no idea. He's in Ramesses (spelled wrong?) now, but I don't know if he's using the same rig.
