I'm going to see if I can become a supplier of fender washers for under the pilot light... I'm sure I can save him at least .01 cents per amp. Here's where all the original amp manufacturers took the bull by the horns and put a front panel bezel plate on their amps. Whether its a Fender, AMPEG, whatever. Order up a nice aluminum or stainless steel silk screened panel and finish your amplifiers!!!!!!! Then figure out how to tuck that fan into the head case. Until then they look like something built in a garage. BOB

hey guys, thanks for the kind words. We're just rolling out our Meatsmoke bass amps to some Seattle-area stores and by special request to a few customers farther out. The specs speak for themselves, but I'll add that we've altered the negative bias supply on the phase splitter for more headroom- cleaner, louder. If you're into that. If not, the preamp overdrive just growls when you push it.

We're talking to some European backline companies about using our amps, but right now dealerships over there are kind of out of arms reach for a new company like us. Any chance you'll be touring the USA soon? We should have some sound samples up post-haste for your listening pleasure. Feel free to shoot me any questions in the meantime. thanks!

I kind of like the built in a garage look, but the huge silver fender washer looking thing does put me off a bit. Even a wooden one might look better. The price seems good for what you're getting.

What Ohms will it run at? I'll guess 8 or 4, like most of the big tube heads in production (boutique or otherwise).

+1 to ditching the big washer and tucking the fan into the head case. The "rustic look" is very cool but only up to a point. You want the rustic thing to be strictly cosmetic, yet with a clear underlying indication of professional assembly quality.

If the washer has to stay, then you could cover it with a faux rusted-zinc finish and then clear-coat that.

I like the overall deal though, I only pick these nits because I want to see you succeed. I would totally rock a scorched-wood amp called the "Meat Smoke". :D

Kind of rustic looking but since when does 'rock' and 'rustic' go together. This is already bordering trolling.
This going the way of that speaker cabinet guy who was selling using religion to sell cabs back a few years ago? Can't remember the name.

+1 Lose the washer, hide the fan & cover the boxes. Stained plywood does not take stain well enough to look pro. They look too homemade. That said, I think the chassis, Etc. looks Top Notch! Excellent price for a ballsy amp. I like the chunk trannys instead of torroids too! Nice...

:confused: I disagree, and I'm normally one of those guys who bust the chops of "borderline trolls". The OP doesn't appear to be shilling for the amp maker, and the amp maker didn't say anything that seemed improper to me. The guy who was using religion is hugely successful and has devoted fans here, so it's not like he was a random freak from the distant past. And even at that I don't get the comparison because there are no weird statements or claims on the Verellen site or in Desmond's post. I call shenanigans on you, and I hope Desmond can overlook your trolling and participate here among welcoming and curious potential customers.

The guy posts one time to tout his snake oil and hasn't been back nor is he a subscriber. Troll indeed.
I clicked on the 'download' manual and it no more info than the home page.
He claims to be an engineer, of what?
I just think someone posting to advertise to the world that he is now both a carpenter and electronic mastermind should not only be a subscriber on such a sight as this but be providing a little more info on his product and himself.
Perhaps 'troll' is a bit strong but we've seen this type before.
What was the name of that speaker cab from a few years back, is it still been made today?

Out of curiosity... having the name Verellen and being from seattle immediately makes me wonder, does the name have any ties to Dave or Ben Verellin (from the both quite great seattle-area bands Botch and Harkonen respectively)?

hey guys, I know a few days have gone by since I was last around...not trying to be standoffish, just busy with startup stuff. anyways..

Since it's come up a bunch, I'll mention that we have new washers around the jewel which are slightly smaller (1 3/4" diameter) and now stainless steel. For reference, the chassis itself is 2 inches tall. As for the rest of the aesthetics: it's a matter of taste, but for the record we did start out in a basement : )

specs: the Meatsmoke runs 6 6550s (yes, the transformers are big and heavy), 3 band eq, treble and bass boost. It's got 3 12ax7 preamp tubes and 1 12AT7 phase splitter. 4- and 8-ohm taps off the output xfrmr. The 16-gauge steel chassis is also slightly wider than in the brochure. Sorry if the website is short on specs, if you have any specific questions feel free to PM me here or on the verellen forums.

Both the 4x10 and 2x15 cabs are 4 ohms, 400 watts. One time we did a tall cab with 4x10, 1x18, and tweeter for a friend's biamp GK head. Our roots are in custom stuff like that.

And yes, the name is Ben Verellen's (Dave's younger brother). He does the circuit layouts, wiring, etc..I do circuitry also, and there's a third partner who does the woodworking.
