Very elementary question re: scales

Clarification of an earlier post for WWHWWWH or 2212221, and reference to 2-4, 1-2-4, 1-3-4 fingering. This is from a Hal Leonard Bass Method book.

More on the fingering pattern. C major in this example. 2-4, 1-2-4, 1-3-4 for C-D, E-F-G, A-B-C.

Off topic, but wow does this take me back. I put a ridiculous amount of time into that method book. I started off doing the first chapter and then the next week doing chapter 1 through 2, then the next week doing chapters 1, 2, and 3, etc. Until I was doing the book front to back a couple of times every day for the last week. Needless to say, I had a lot of free time back then.
