VFE Woodchipper

So, yeah, the Fuzz volume Mod, really louder and super cool!

The less compression mod makes it a lot more useful. The Drive range now is much better throughout.

The two mods are definitely worth it. The fuzz volume is not necessary if you run all your pedals at unity or reasonably above unity (which I prefer to do). So, while the fuzz volume is something I could have gone without, it is nice to have if I ever need to blow my speakers or something ;)

So I just picked up a V1 from our good friend Mr. gregmon79, and I am sending it back to VFE for a rehousing and new knobs. I paid for the service and then was contacted by Peter to make sure everything was right. I told him I changed my mind on the color, and he said no problem. Then, after reading this thread, I told him I would like to pay for the silicon diode mod and the volume mod. He kindly explained the volume mod was not possible on the V1, but that he would do the silicon mod for free. I thanked him, and then once again flip flopped on my color choice. I knew I was being difficult, and would have completely understood a certain level of frustration. However, Peter was super cool and remained pleasant and professional. I will buy more VFE pedals in the future because not only are they very well made, but they offer an insane amount of options, and the customer service is top notch.

Got my Woodchipper back today, with the lowered compression mod, and I like it a lot better. It might even go onto my board now, though it would have to fight and win over both the Blackout Twosome/Musket and the TFR as I only have room for one fuzz.

I have a luxury problem now, for the first time I have more than one fuzz and more than one overdrive that I want to have on the board, and not enough space for them all. There's decision anxiety ahead ...

Got my V1 back from VFE. Silicon diode mod done, as well as rehoused with new knobs. Sounds killer, and looks pretty rad, too. The sustain on this thing is nuts.

Well it's not going to be very thorough, but here you go:

Diabolik: the Squish really gives it a lot of tone versatility. It's loud, but other that the squish you can't control much, and I've always found it to be lacking some deep-lows.
Woodchipper: Much less versatile tone-wise. I could mainly dial a compressed sound (that I like a lot), but without much attack. I'm fine with it though. The added bass, treble and bottom controls are what's making it win against the Diabolik for now.

I wasn't able to test both side by side with a drummer. But if the compressed sound of the Woodchipper cuts through well, I might have a winner here.

I also agree the the clean blend has to be turned off or to an absolute minimum.

I won the "special edition" "Tone Gobbler" in a giveaway - it's a Woodchipper with a Thanksgiving themed housing, V2 with the mods. It's a really good pedal I don't need...it would be difficult to part with for sentimental reasons, but I would listen to Godfather offers...
