Vibram "Five Fingers" shoes

Seeing I can't go to the Y, school, college, etc., barefoot, your plan doesn't apply. To each his own.

You can't go to college barefoot??

But yeah, thats what I said, the only reason I would buy them is so I don't have to ware "shoes" when I go to somewhere that footware is required. Fortunately, thats not all too often :D

All im saying is that the basic concept behind them is absolutely brilliant. Sell people their own feet.

Question for wearers:

How are these with hard surfaces? Someone's already mentioned stone, but concrete seems like it'd be painful to run on. Are these intended to be primarily trail running shoes, or do they work well on all surfaces?

Love mine. Once you get used to them, they are wonderful for _moving_ over hard surfaces. Running on concrete is no problem (as long as you don't stub your toe - way better than barefoot but still not pleasant). But they can - at least for me - be a bit uncomfortable standing for extended periods on a hard surface.

I saw these a while back and had a good look at them as a potential new product line. The marketing and base concept behind these is absolutely brilliant.

The best part is, they are not selling anything. Apply everything you read on the page to simply taking your shoes off and going outside and it still makes perfect sense.

Except they are selling shoes, which is certainly not nothing. The value is in the added protection. I certainly wouldn't want to run through the city barefoot, or even the woods for that matter.

On the starting line at state (cross country), I had a talk with a runner from another school who was wearing a pair of them. Funky things... He seemed to love them and the he got 5th wearing them, so I might have to give them a try the next time I have an opportunity.

I'm bringing this thread to 2012!

I am considering getting a pair. My arches fell when I was about 11 and now I'm 23 and I can't stand longer than 4hr on hard floor without the worst. feet. pain. ever. Fallen arches also lead to back pain and knee pain because your bones are no longer properly aligned.

I did some reading and instead of alleviating the pain temporarily (insoles/orthetics), there have been people who got their arches back by barefoot running/walking. General idea is that you are using all the muscles in your feet in a way that they're supposed to be used (there are 18 muscles in the arch alone!) and when they get stronger over time your natural arch will come back and be supported.

I want that so badly. But why are these shoes so ugly! :P

Anyways, I am interested in stories of people who've had back/knee/ankle/feet pain and used barefoot running to make themselves stronger and get rid of these problems.

THEY ARE NOT UGLY!!! ;)

There are many new styles available and coming soon.
I have three pairs, KSO, Bikila and Speed.

I always had shin splints when running. I even tried getting custom made insoles etc. Nothing worked.
Until Vibram KSO. My shin splints disappeared and I've never been happier! :)

I've been using them for two years now, running, training and everyday use. Love'em!
