Victor Wooten now using D'Addario Strings

"Leaving" our strings for d'Addario helps support the greater good and has our blessing (not that Vic needed it!). As someone that has personally experienced a week at Wooten Woods, this is significant. It is a special place doing some simply amazing things for people and musicians.

Thanks for posting this Jason. It's reassuring to know that Vic left for marketing & business development reasons and not because he was somehow dissatisfied with Fodera strings.

Every time I read one of these threads about this product, versus that product I am reminded of the times I have walked into a set and saw a musician absolutely killing it on stage with very modest gear. I think that Victor has a vision for his role as an artist, and teacher that is his key motivation for decisions like this. It is pretty clear that he knows what he's doing.

Well it was through Victor that most people outside of NYC made their first contact with Fodera. And Vic's rise was pretty meteoric and well on its way in the early 90's. But I will say that even though Vic brought you guys to most of our attention, I don't mean to imply that it wasn't deserved or anything like that.

Please remember that for the first 27 years that he played our instruments we were unable to provide him or his incredible charitable endeavors ANY financial support. Yes, you read that correctly...from 1983 until 2010 Fodera was never in a financial position that allowed us to pay ANY of our artists any kind of endorsement fees, royalties, etc. These amazing players played (and play) our gear because it is what they want to play, NOT because they make money for doing so. This reality runs in stark contrast to the way that Vic has been portrayed by some in this thread.

Totally agreed. Vic does good things and is a good person from everything I can tell, but it's always the way of jealous people to count others' money or question their motives.

Back to our waiting list...
The vast majority of Fodera's ordered have nothing to do with people trying to emulate Victor. We are fortunate enough to work with many really fine artists...not just one. We'd like to think that the wait time for our instruments has more to do with people believing that we strive to build the very finest instruments for them and that they know that they will be treated with exactly the same respect and deference by us as Victor is. Every one of our players is treated the same -- as a unique person that we care about -- and in this age of internet sales and chain store distribution, hopefully our wait time is a collective appreciation of that.

"Hatin" ?

From what I got from it is not that anyone is "hatin on D'Adario Strings and Victor Wooten" but that they simply are not interested in this .
That's not "hatin'", is it?
My guess is that those who are interested in Wooten would have known about this prior to it being posted here anyways.
Maybe that is why a certain air of cynicism comes across from a few post/posters.

One thing that guaranteed from talkbass, some one is always going find something to complain about when usually there is nothing to complain about. Is it really that hard for people to simply say? "Hey not my thing" or "I'm not interested"


Obviously it it is. Obviously it really is.

I guess there is that.
But maybe it's also a certain over-exposure which begins to show.
One sees so much written about wooten that it may just be getting on some peoples' nerves by now, regardless of what it is in connection with him that is being said...
the option of simply not reading it doesn't seem to occur to some.










As always , I may be totally wrong, of course. :)

If people are tired of reading about Vic all they have to do is not read about him.


But they don't, they just find something to complain about when there really is nothing to complain about. Most have the mental ability to not read about what we may be tired of reading about but obviously more than most choose to not have that abilty.


And no I'm not being sarcastic.

would people complain if jaco used them, maybe. I use ghs supersteels, imo they are the best for me. I have never based my gear purchases on what famous players use.on a positive note, what is great is when a famous player uses a particular bass that helps. example when jack bruce did the cream reunion tour a few years ago he used one of those gibson violin basses (eb1) I bought mine in 1999 for $ 700 now look what they go for same for the ibanez black eagle bass. we should end this thread go back to sheddin the bass.

I know this thread is from 2012 but....Talkbass is also renowed by resurected threads.

I just switched from Fodera nickels to D´addario nickels. I always thought that D´addario were crap cheap awful strings (back in the days when I didn´t know what I want from strings. But Fodera´s are hard to find here, and if you find them, are expensive. So I went for D´addarios with great result.

I really don´t understand the hate for these good strings. But anyhow, I´ll use d´addario because they are good strings at very good price and find them everywhere.
