Well, seeing as how you had time to write 15 posts today alone, I'm sure you have time to investigate this on your own. I'm just telling you what the guy told me and I can't imagine why the guy would make something like that up because its his job (and in his best interests) to sell these things. P.S. a "job" is what other people do while you are posting on TB all day. Cheers

Yeah, because salesmen at music stores are always reliable sources. If I had a nickel for every bogus rumor posted on TB alone (never mind other forums) by someone who heard it from a music store employee, I'd be sending this from my private island.

Jimmy, by the way, was a full-time musician last I checked. How long do you think it takes to write 15 posts, anyway?

It's in his best interest to sell these things and he's telling people that there is a 25% return rate? Not much of a salesman. :D

As to why; some people just like to be 'in the know' big shots.

Also, Jimmy has been around TB forever and is an Ampeg expert in most TBers opinions. You've been on the board for a little over a month. :meh:

If the 6AC10 works well in your amp, the problem is solved. Let us know what you think once you've tried it.

I've bought the 6K11 from Invalid Link Removed, current price is $27. The 6Q11 is very close. The sad thing is, the tube used to cost a lot less just a few years ago. They sell the 6AC10 for $7.15 and have 68 in stock.

There is a retrofit board that uses a 12DW7 (12AX7 triode and a 12AU7 triode in the same bottle) and a 12AX7 in place of the 6K11: Ampeg V2, V4, VT22, VT40 - Retrofit Rev 2 Printed Circuit Board. It looks good and would allow more common tubes to be used.

The attached file shows what the differences are in the various substitute tubes.

So, in addition to substitute tubes, there are other solutions, which is good.

Hey all - wondering if someone can give me some info of where I can find out what this gear might be worth. I bought it about 10 years ago and told it is 1973 B-4v gear. The cabinet has 2x18 that are rear-facing (therefore the cabinet is HUGE). The Amp sounds and works great but just thinking of selling because I never use it - in favor of a HiWatt/Orange config but also because I am working on new insurance so I need to prove some values.

NOTE - for some reason the photo won't upload but does anyone know where I can get this info?

Sure it's not two 15"s? That was the standard V4B cab of the day. Can't discuss worth with you on here but don't expect to be able to retire from it.
