i'm pretty sure i saw a one off combo w/ the navy done for will lee at the last nyc bass day in the ampeg booth. i think i had a picture of that on my external harddrive somewhere.

i'm pretty sure i saw a one off combo w/ the navy done for will lee at the last nyc bass day in the ampeg booth. i think i had a picture of that on my external harddrive somewhere.
Here's the history:
Matamp, amp company founded by the venerable Mat Mathias, made some really killer amplifiers back in the 60's. Orange, a studio in England, commissioned Matamp to make some "Orange" Matamps. With Orange Tolex. Eventually Orange decided to build their own amplifiers, and Matamp and Orange separated. That's where the Orange Amplifier company comes from.
Matamp's Green line (aka the Green Matamps... go figure
) Were in reference to Peter Green, original guitarist/bandleader of Fleetwood Mac... back when Fleetwood Mac were good 
Eventually, Green Matamp's gained popularity with a lot of the Stoner/Doom bands from the 90's, the most famous being Sleep.
A Businessman named Joel Wheeler saw Sleep live, went "hey, aren't those supposed to be Orange Amps? Maybe they just got them recovered or something..." Talked to Al Cisneros (the bassist of Sleep) after the show, which had changed his life, and discovered the existence of the Matamp shop. He quit his job and went through an awful lot of trouble to get a Green Matamp shipped over to him. Eventually, he became the head of Matamp's U.S. Distribution, a small operation, given the size of the Matamp shop. After a while, Matamp U.K. decided to begin to get away from the uber-loud model, and Matamp U.S. didn't want to. So they too splintered into two companies, Matamp U.S. (the Joel Wheeler headed outfit) became Electric Amp (www.electricamp.com) and now offer the classic Matamp circuit in any tolex color you could want.

always wondered... and yes, was too lazy to wiki it. haha...
i honestly couldnt care less what my stuff looks like. with that said, I would prefer(even just in the sound department) an ampeg 1x15 fliptop amp and a guild starfire bass any day to a eden 4x10 and a warwick. that's just me though.
