Visiting NYC this week...

Hitting NYC Friday.. I'm visiting Sadowsky as always, but what stores are around now for bass gear to check out ???

If you're a fan of reclaimed wood, Carmine Street Guitars is worth a visit. Not a huge bass inventory, but still very cool.

Old standbys ,Manny's and Rudy's Music Stop.

I think Mannys closed their doors a few years back, but Rudys is still open (and just across the street). I'd also recommend the Fodera shop and David Gage Strings.

Neither of those exist anymore...

Mannys was bought by Sam Ash years ago, and then was moved down to 34th Street
Rudy's on 48th closed a few years back. There is a location in Soho, but it doesn't have much bass gear.

Definitely contact La Bella and go hang at their Loft in Brooklyn. It's stocked with some serious basses and amps!

I'm normally not crazy about GC and Sam Ash, but the Manhattan stores are better than most. Larry Hartke is often at the Sam Ash, which I believe has some Fodera basses. The GC is on 14th St., and the Sam Ash on W. 34th. There's also a GC near Times Square, but it doesn't have the same range of gear as the 14th St. location.

There's also Matt Umanov in Greenwich Village, but I haven't been there in a long time so I don't know what the inventory is like.

Good to hear that Manny's relocated, instead of just closing down.

Agreed that the 14th street GC is cool; nice bass selection, too.

I agree about GC and Sam Ash being some of the better stores in NYC.
There's also 30th Street guitars...not actually on 30th street.
Umanov is closing too. Their bass selection isn't great, but they've got some killer deals right now.

They did close down. Sam Ash bought their space on 48th Street, and expanded into it. They (Sam Ash) had multiple storefronts on 48th (guitar store, drum store, brass & woodwinds, etc.). A few years ago they moved off of 48th and consolidated all the different stores into one location on 34th Street.

Second Carmine St/Kelly Guitars. Rick is a good dude and has worked on a couple of my instruments. Right around the corner from Umanov in a great part of town. Umanov had some really spotty customer service in the past years though, not entirely surprised they're closing. Perhaps some blowout deals?
