VT Bass frequency response plots

Just for nerdy clarity, that wouldn't be "all frequencies at once", because that's the definition of white noise. It's just "a wide ranging selection of frequencies at once". :)
Ya, that's just what I would expect out of someone who says, "Get your kicks on 8.1240384." How did that number come to stand for Route 66, anyway?

Well, thanks for the clarification, nerd. Maybe one day the bullies will let you out of your locker ;)

Well then, got to my gig and set up my VT like Danny's picture of flat, and what do you know? It's a dead nuts match of channel 2 in my SVT! So I kept that setting except I put the drive on 1:30, and doggone if it wasn't a great distorted sound, too. I ran it with a phase shifter and it almost sounded like Larry Graham demonstrating his Roland Jet Phaser.

But I don't know if I like it dead flat. I like the boost of the low mids in the first channel. I'd like to see a frequency sweep of that first channel to see what's doing, because I like its low end better, but I don't like its midrange as much. Back in the day I ran it with both channels, one clean and one dirty, so now I'm thinking that might be the ticket again. That way maybe I can get what I want out of both channels, because I can't seem to get what I want out of each individual channel.

So yeah Danny, thanks for posting that. That was very enlightening.

I just downloaded FDeck's RTA software and have been messing about with it. I did a few screenshots of the VT Bass at various settings for anyone who's interested. The aim was to see if it suffered from the same mid-scoop as the BDDI, how flat the EQ was with the EQ knobs at noon, and how to get the best approximation to a flat EQ.

Character all the way down, all EQ knobs at 12 o'clock:

Finally, I managed to get the flattest curve possible withthese EQ settings (apart from the massive treble rolloff due to the speaker sim!):

Hi dannybuoy.

Thank you for posting this. It really demystifies how the VT Bass' controls work. :)

On my VT Bass the mid-way point in its knobs' travel has their indicators pointing to approx. 11:30, not 12:00.

Is your VT made the same way?

+1

Thanks for the thread! I am no stranger to most of SansAmp's stuff by any stretch, but I am new to the VT pedal (which will be here in 2 days). This thread will prove very useful!

Thanks again...

I don't know, it's hard to tell without getting out a protractor to measure how many degrees the marker sits at on min/max positions and then translate that into a time... I reckon it might be at about 11:52!

Hey Guys,
I know this thread is probably long dead, but I'd thought I'd mention this (maybe it's already been referenced elsewhere on the forum):

I just bought my VT two weeks ago and they may have changed it up a bit. To get a flat signal all my settings are the same except High is turned all the way off and unity gain is at about 2 o'clock. Seems kinda odd, right?

Also, my Mid seems to be tuned to around 1.15k (or at least the resonance is right there); nowhere near 500 as mentioned on the insert. It's right around the frequency of my pick attack. Has anyone else noticed this?

Wow, thanks a ton for posting this... I know it's been a while, but I just had a good first run with the VT tonight and was a little amazed at how much treble there seemed to be when it was set to what I thought was flat.

I'm a little mid obsessed, and I'm very thankful that now I know what to cut/boost depending on where the character knob is... Can't wait to readjust settings tomorrow.

Thanks again
