VT Bass Rackmount...

Loving the VTRM with the new barefaced supertwin cab. Im really loving some different settings with it. Drive 9:00, character 2 or 3 clicks right, bass at 3:00 to maxxed, mid and treble noon. That thumps like the nv610 but maybe fatter. The new twin is flatter so, it takes eq well.

Quick update here. Found my sweet spot it seems with settings. Still dialing it in. Band and I were happy with tone yesterday at rehersal. Currently using the SVT settings as the basline with slightly adjusted eq. Blend 100%. I was having issues with fuzz pedals causing feedback and found rolling back their gain helped a great deal. Pretty much dialed in a good clean punchy tone then matched the output with pedal engaged. I have no need for the BDDI on my board any longer. Stoked for sure.

I'm loving the idea of the VTRM and am going back and forth between it and the RPM. I already have the VT2 pedal and use it as an always on pedal. Would I be better off adding the RPM and using my VT pedal, as needed, for variation and/or distortion or should I just add a VTRM and forgo using the pedal at all? This is particularly to those of you, like Fuzzbass or kringle77, who have tried so many variations of the available Tech 21 preamps and understand how well they do, and don't, work together.

Just an update. I've been running the vtrm with it's subsonic filter removed to allow more low end and it has worked much better for me. I didn't care for it when using the power section of the genz sm9.2 but, when I switched to a big carvin amp it gave me back that big o'l lead slead sound and feel. If you've got real power to burn, try removing the filter. I've been going through alot of preamps and keep coming back to the vtrm. It does sound better than any of the vt series pedals too. More headroom, wider and clearer sounding. Sometimes I wish that I could get alittle more of this or that out of it but, it's a small trade off for working so well. Also, at a live gig where you can't be annoying the crowd or band by spending your time knob twiddling, it's usually a matter of turning one control 1/4" to make a drastic change. At that point, close enough is good enough and you just go back to playing. I've been looking hard at a few top end tube things but, it's hard to justify when a $300 preamp is beating out so many top shelf peices.

My bass is so hot that I normally use the padded input of the VTRM. This morning I used the normal input and used my compressor volume to bring do the level of my bass. It sounds a bit different, but I like it. I still have to have the drive all the way down to get a totaly clean sound but, it may be just a tad clearer. I then put my keeley tube screamer in the 50/50 effects loop and since it was seeing less input from my bass, I could get the overdrive level more where I want it. That is about as good of a bass overdrive with a solid bottom as you can get. When my retrosix10 finally arrives I plan to do some new videos and may demonstrate this scenario.

I enjoyed your previous videos & the playing especially. I have been using the VT Bass DI pedal with higher Drive settings lately with the blend at lower settings between 1/4 to 1/2 way up with good results.

So how do you go about removing the subsonic filter? I love all my tech 21 products, but where they have their bass EQ centered is a little higher than I like it. A little more low end and it would probably knock my SVP-Pro out of the number one spot.

There is a thread on here that tells how. The VTRM has jumpers to adjust the filter, bass and mid control frequencies. They don't change the sound too much, but it is noticeable. It will come up with a search. "VTRM jumpers"

Just ran the vtrm into the power section of a vintage svt, into an nv610 using the totally clean (non sansamp side of the preamp) and it was stupid awsome. Damn you tube poweramps!!!!! I boosted the treble pretty high and just a bit of mid and turned it up until the power amp started to overdrive. That is the overdrive sound that most of us want. It sounded different but, as good as the svt's regular preamp section. Less compressed. Makes you want to run out and get an aguilar tube poweramp.....but you still wouldn't want to cart it around.

Ive been running the vtrm with the blend totally to the clean, un-sansamp side with bass 2-clicks right, mid 1 click right and treble maxed into my barefaced supertwin. I prefer the clearer sound, huge low end and hard punch. Im also adding a fairly narrow 3db bump at 160hz. Im f2f etting a much better sound live. Ive moved on to a two notes cab for my amp/cab sim to the board. This is a great setup.

I moved the jumpers to select 80Hz for bass and 750Hz for mids. So basically moving both frequencies to the lowest setting. Now this preamp sounds is how is suppose to be.

There should be a easy mod to add a small switch in front to select the 3 options that the bass and mids offers.

Thanks for reminding me about the Jumpers. I've move to bridging my Carvin HD1500 into a Bag End Q10BX-D and I'm still not 100% sold yet. We have been turning down a little in practice. So that's changing the EQ dynamics a bit too. Using the amp in stereo with two D10BX-D sounded much brighter and more punch. Again should compare with the levels were using these days as well.

Just finished incorporating it. It adds a nice character to my setup. I'm mixing preamps in parallel, so it's only part of the path.

Here's the rig now (or at least the sound making parts of it)

- B3K - Monique - Palmer PDI 05
- Avalon U5
- VT Bass Rack

Subtracted an RBI and RPM and don't think I'll be missing them at all.

Monique is definitely the star of the show, but the VT adds a nice freshly-squeezed OD flavor to the mix.

I understand that you have 3 lines?
I'm also using multiple lines in parallel including Avalon U5, RBI, RPM and PGA-05. I also, on your recommandation (previous posts), bought a Rane SM26S mix them up.
What about your mix? (To give me an idea)
Do you use the PDI-05 only with the Monique or alone to plug your bass directly like Geddy does?
Also, I understand that you prefer the VT Bass over the RPM? It is more flexible?
Thanks.
