waiting for my fodera (daily thoughts)

same for me I'm willing to wait for my bass and have the exact specs that I want on the bass (even if my bass is like bona's model because I'm so used to own ash basses)
moreover, the price in dollars make it less expensive in euros, even if I pay taxes it's still less expensive, i I had ordered the bass through an european dealer the bass would cost a lot more, something like 8000 or more euros!!!

My previous order (Fender precision) was utilized through an european dealer. Finally it arrives from Germany. After opening the package I was very disappointed... only the guitar was original USA made, all other accessories (hardshell case, adjusting tools etc.) was "Made in China" :rolleyes:

I don't get you - Bass-Central for example offers a VW classic for around 7800,- dollars , that would be 5500,- Euros then plus taxes and stuff you'll have sth. around 6500,- and that's not + 50%

it's not important for you to order from german shops or eleswhere when you're from another continent

and if you would know about the delivery times of new custom orders that they could offer in the past you would cry and not believe how this could happen !!! - believe me ;)

Wow, take me back!

Almost 20 years ago exactly I ordered my Emperor Deluxe. It took 9 or ten months-- I cannot even remember exactly-- and it seemed like an eternity. I do remember it took way longer than originally estimated which made the wait seem even longer.

But I remember the incredible feeling. Having experienced both, I would say it was like waiting to meet your newborn child for the first time. Of course meeting my daughter (and son) was better. But it really was a similar experience.

Enjoy this period of time.

sorry if I was not clear, I was talking about Bass-Central... I will try again :)
1- please visit Station-Music web page and click on Fodera
2- the first available item on stock is: "Fodera Emperor II Elite Tom Kennedy 5 string" with the following description: "quilted maple top, swamp ash body, neck thru, ebony fretboard, 35" scale, 24 large frets, matching headstock, Gotoh machine heads, gold hardware, Seymour Duncan Vintage Dual Coil pickups with wooden covers, M.O.P...."
3- the price is: "7.750,00 EUR"

similar custom made model in USA costs 7700 USA $ - this is a big difference in a price :smug: moreover, for the price in $ you can give the full specification of your needs (i.e. body wood, number of frets, pickup, preamp, position markers on fingerboard face, you can have your name or whatever you want to be engraved on the back of the head etc...) :bassist:

you are absolutely right that the dealer is not important - if he could fulfill all your needs

I believe you that they can manage very good delivery time - its mean that I made a mistake because I do not search for all the potential Fodera dealers :rolleyes:

In the meantime I informed about many bass dealers, about their approach to their job and to the customers and based on that I must change my quoted sentence: I do not made any mistake when I selected Glenn as a Fodera dealer. :hiding:

Knowing the fact that the delivery time is too long for a custom made Fodera, I will not start any business with the trader who offers 1-2 months delivery time, because in that deal something is smelling bad...

Just to inform everybody that today I received a notice from Glenn that all is on schedule with my bass. :hyper:

As you see few of us are waiting our Fodera basses to be delivered. To easier withstand the waiting period we share our feelings with each others. It would be nice that other members, who are waiting their Fodera basses, also describing their thoughts, experiences with dealers - or whatever they think to be interested for the members.... :bassist:

My buddy's Fodera is finally under construction. I understand that it takes about 40 hours from start to finish, so he should have his in a couple of months or so.... only three years after the promised date (almost 4 years to the day):eek: It should be a beauty.... 'Tommy Kennedy reduced size Emperor II', but with standard pickup placement. It's a classic, very simple spec, with no fancy wood pickup covers, extended B headstock, relatively lightweight mahogany and a solid maple top.

I guess the good news is he's getting it at the pricing that was in place 4 years ago.

hi Everybody!
still no news about my bass.
I'm about to process to the second payment to my dealer (the euro/dollar rate is good for euro users nowadays)
I'm still hoping to hear my dealer say that my bass is being done or anything else.
Now, it's strange, when I made the first payment, I was really worried and I wanted to hear about my dealer everyday!
Now I don't mind, I just wait (hey if my dealer give some news, I'll be happy though!!!)
As the due date is may 2009, i'm just telling myself that we're almost in october and that 2008 is ending soon and that may 2009 is going to come soon and guess what??
Since I'm waiting to have my fodera, I use my other basses and try tehm a lot to discover new sounding possibilities!

:rollno:unbelievable - after 4 years it is still not delivered.... :crying: can you tell us more about the dealer and about the agreement between you and the dealer - regarding the promised delivery time... :atoz:

I think that KJung and Just Thumpin' selected a wrong dealer - they should choose Glenn Kawamoto from Austin Bass Traders (he is fulfilling his promises given in the invoice - regarding the delivery time... in some cases he delivered before promised date - see posts on "AUSTIN BASS TRADERS. any references? ")

I've dealt with Glenn often, and he is great. If you choose a Fodera that Glenn has had on order for quite a while, obviously, you will get the bass quicker than a pure custom order (same thing on Celinder's). However, the Fodera delivery debacle is not dealer specific as far as I know.

This is a friend of mine's bass, so I don't feel comfortable giving any more info out, other than his bass is almost finished:bassist:

I can say that this is not an unusual situation, and I believe a 3-4 year wait for a custom Fodera is 'par for the course' now, unless again you snag one that has been on order for a long time by a dealer like Glenn.
