waiting for my fodera (daily thoughts)

I was choosing between Ken Smith, Tobias, and Fodera... I chose the Smiths. When I played a Fodera I personally did not like the feel.

Then again, back then I was playing mainly upright bass.

I was into victor wooten back then as well, he told me when we met and I let him play my smith that I should put wheels on the bottom of it and use it as a skate board... Ill never forget it, it was at the 97 grammy awards and I played classical thump for him on it, he asked to play it, and then told me that... i still laugh when I think about it :P

funny story lol, but it makes me wonder if I 'll choose a smith(6 string) mtd(6 string) or fodera (4 string)

today I decided not to think about my fodera again (it's hard though) and concentrate on my bass playing and my piano playing, the real thing is still the music

Hi to all,
I am also waiting my custom made Fodera Emperor II 5 from ABT. The promised delivery date is May 2009. I asked Glenn to inform me, time to time, about the status of the ordered bass – and he is fulfilling his promise monthly.

My Fodera was completed this week after 1 year 10 months and 1 week wait. It took more than 14 months before they started it. For the last eight weeks I had called Fodera every week and probably been a pain in the ass;) For me the latest three months was hard wait.

Please tell me that you ordered your bass from Fodera directly - or from some bass traders... what was the promised delivery time on the invoice... anyway I am sure you are happy now... lol

hi,
when did you started to order your bass??
that's cool, we can wait together, we have the same delivery date!!!
we'll see if it's longer than it is (I think it will lol but even if it takes one year, as long as the bass is perfect...)

shortly: after contacting ABT (Glenn) at the same day I received his answer, within a few days we agreed the specification... he submitted the invoice #1 on 5. June 2008, I transferred him the full amount (except the shipping costs) at 7. June 2008. He confirmed that he received payment at the same day with invoice #2. So - my order is started at 07. June 2008. In the meantime he informed me that Fodera is started selecting for us the proper wood.... he promised me also that he will send some pics...

that's strange, because, i didn't pay the full amount , i just paid 1/3 of the bass and told him when to process the 2nd and 3rd payment, but he didn't told me anything about fodera picking the wood or something else.... I just emaild Glenn about having every two months...
what is strange too is that I asked him about pictures but he told me that he cannot ask fodera to shoot pictures along the way because the fodera guys are really busy doing their craft (and I understand that), it's strange that Glenn didn't told you the same things to me!!
my order started the 20th of august.
something strange here!!!

I think - nothing is strange here... I have my vision about the things. As far as I am ordered a bass from overseas, and from a country which is declared as "non safe country" (Serbia) it is normal for me that he asked the full amount. After the order is placed - I just kindly asked him to inform me about the status of the order time to time (I did not request the frequency of information, never asked him to send me pics - I do not want to frustrate him by e-mails and special requests... lets allow him to do his job). Anyway - Glenn is a great person - he will never cheat you. Be sure that you will receive your bass... he is a person who will fulfill his promises. I advice you that leave him to do his job - and be sure he will inform you time to time with the relevant informations.

Well; I was told to be prepared for at least a 9 month wait or so. I was aware it would take longer time than that;) I ordered it from the guys that run F-clef basses.

A bass player from Italy told me to contact them, when I wanted to buy his lefty Fodera that he had for sale.

Understand... My opinion is (and I am not alone) that the best Fodera dealer is Glenn Kawamoto from Austin Bass Traders.....

I think that Glenn is a great guy too!!!
the way he treats you is top notch, and I'm not worried about getting my bass, I trust him! I was first a little afraid because it's the first time that I buy a bass from a dealer outside of my country (France) now I don't send him emails , I wait for his emails to come to tell me!
I trust him, that's why I decided to wait to receive my bona and after that I will order a fodera wooten or a ken smith 6 or a fbass caron fretless! I have yet to decide whiwh model to choose

Both of us are in a same situation - waiting our bass.... I hope that we will be in a contact here, and inform each other (and the others) about the things ....

lol - forget it - Lothar Walter from Station-Music / germany is the BEST ;)

but that were just my thought regarding of what I'm reading what you guys have to go through with your dealers :D

lol :bassist:

the bass cost $8K ,and I'm glad to see i'm not the only one to think like that.
I don't want to burden guys at Fodera, I just think that a call is nohing just to tell us where it's at, moreover it adds to the excitement to get a bass like that

And yes it will be a good test, because if I 'm satisfied, i'll maybe order a monarch after, so I think that I can call myself a good consumer!!!lol

When I owned a Roscoe I got progress pics and the bass was under 3 grand. Certainly a 8 grand bass deserves the same attention. :eyebrow:

(but look at the prices of Station Music... +50% extra) :eyebrow:

??? I've payed less than if I would have ordered the basses in the states because of the good change between euro and dollar :D

I don't know where you live but ordering through them only makes sence if you live in europe - and you'll be suprised what they can do with the waiting time :smug:

:smug:

Just checked their web page, and found some Fodera "on stock" - so they are not custom made pieces, the price for the Fodera Emperor II on stock is more in euro than for a custom made Emperor II in $ - USA order. Taking in a consideration the euro and $ exchange rate it is +50%. As far as instruments of this class are not a "must to have", I am ready for waiting some time, and paying less, and have a bass of my dreams with the specification I dictated...

Do you know how long is the delivery time for a custom made Fodera Emperor II with Station-Music? :bassist:
