What is an "older" Wal? And how do you identify electrolytic caps (vs. other types)?
In the older "active" Wals, the electrolytic capacitors are the little (probably light or dark purple) guys, shaped like tiny Coke cans. They're located within an inch of the XLR transformer "mystery" box on the larger PC Board. They have a stripe on the side with a "-" (negative) symbol. Cheap, VERY common parts, which you can order from Mouser Electronics. 4.7uF (micro-farad) 25v (volt).

This is for a 10% tolerance cap, which is probably better than the one onboard, already.

If its 20yrs and older I'd just do it. Remember when my 90 MkII arrived dead? That was my intro to those caps. The new ones Paul uses are 4.7uf 35V.

Saw Tool last week in Houston. Justin had 5 Wals in the rack, including a fretless that he noodled on for a few minutes during a spacey jam.
Gaynard has all but stop singing the scream part at the end of Vicarious ......"Vicariously I, live while the whole world dies" at every show on this mini tour. The last tour they used different guitars to drop the tuning lower in The Pot so Maynard could sing it. There is a song you wont ever hear them play live again. I hope he isnt losing his "power voice"
We will be lucky to see a new album by this time in 2015.....and if it happens i will bet that it is more mellow than 10,000 Days.

That sucks why you hate the guy so much. I like them as band. They were the reason i learned how to decode sheet music. To learn how to play their songs right. Working up schism and the patient were some of the first songs i learned to play on bass. I'm looking forward to the new album, and hate i missed the mini tour.

i like em as a band too......just disappointed they don't do longer shows and its been like eons since they released anything new
It was an enjoyable day. My Tool tribute band sprang for the VIP package and we got to meet Adam, who gave a 2+ hour seminar for us where he talked about his life, the band, how they go about writing songs, polyrhythms, etc. Still cagey about when the new album will be ready. Silverburst Les Paul and Diesel amp were cranking for some riff demonstrations. Then we went to see the band soundcheck (sans Maynard of course). Adam saw us up front and told the others that we were a Tool tribute and they acknowledged us, pretty cool of him. Danny threw my drummer a stick. We sat in second row for show in front of Adam and he nodded to us several times during the show. I thought the band sounded good and tight. Maynard is off in the shadows, I thought he sounded better than the last time I saw him a few years ago. My singer said that he thought he was using a processor to help out his vocals, I didn't really care. 2 sets with a 10 minute intermission. You can find the set list online.
Got to play Caca de Kick's Wals over the weekend. Ugh. Now I'm wondering if I want to buy a house, or find a 5er out there somewhere.
