IIRC it was the availability of the Hornbeam...usually when availability goes down, costs go up

My first MKI came from Germany on a plane...used 3 different types of strings on it and never had to touch the neck once. It also never went out of tune
I miss that Lacewood :(

Yeah your lacewood was goooorgeous. My wal has the hornbeam and I have to say I never find it going out of tune or needing neck adjustments.

A stupid question ;

I know a lot about MKI, II and III basses but about Pro basses I still have to learn . So do you know (besides the active curcuits) how to recognize a Pro II and a IIE just with seeing a pic ? I' m still confused about their aesthetic differences.

Just looking at the pic of the one I bought, is it a II or IIE ?

Pro I - one passive pickup, series/parallel switching

Pro II - two passive pickups, series/parallel switching

Pro IE - one active pickup, pick attack switch, low-mid boost switch

Pro IIE - two active pickups, pick attack switch, low-mid boost switch for neck pickup, upper-mid boost/bass cut switch

Looks like it's a Pro IIE

My understanding was that Hornbeam trees (at least the kind used by Wal) became rather rare and was no longer available. But I can't find any evidence of that on the web. Maybe it is rather because "For general carpentry, hornbeam is rarely used, partly due to the difficulty of working it." (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hornbeam)

^^ looks like the middle switch is missing or broken off

Looking at the picture and seeing how it was advertised as a Pro II, I don't believe its a Pro IIe. The two switches are for each respective pickup to switch parallel/series.

I've seen this discussed somewhere before, but Wal used the same scratchplate for the Pro II and IIe, so the presence of the battery cover doesn't necessarily mean you'll have an active Wal preamp (which the 'e' indicates). So in conclusion, you may have a Pro II. Congrats on the new Wal btw!!! be prepared for the couch if it doesn' slip by the misses :hiding:
