Me too! My favorite one is still my Black MkI. That solid mahog body just gives it that extra ounce of booty.

Did you need everything in gold? pole pieces, etc?

My "Geddy" is actually a "Newsted" & I've been meaning to replace everything in gold or have parts plated - my only concern is fooling with the pole pieces...

I have the Schaller tuners already & was planing to order screws/etc...

The pole pieces are really a non issue to change, they just unscrew.

RE: picking up your Wal...

You'll have to pay the VAT (get a receipt that indicates the VAT was paid) - and you can get it back at the airport, once you check your purchase(s)...

I highly recommend declaring it when you get to customs...
It's not worth the risk/headaches of doing something illegal - for the most part, customs agents know when you're lying & sometimes let it slide. People usually think "I got away with it" - "fooled em"... but they see crap every day & know that nearly everyone has some undeclared goodies...

That was my plan, but I wonder if the plating process might cause some magnetic issues (electrical current is used to attract the gold particles) - or if it would be easier to get new ones from Paul. I'd probably have to send him my old ones...

If you were to gold plate your current chrome hardware i would imagine more than half of the screws/bolts would no longer fit into its thread/hole, due to slightly increasing its size. Pretty much all of the stuff i just replaced were all snug fits!

Not sure....never seen one when out of its hole to see how deep they go. Mine are in great shape.

It's still easier than Turn The Page! heh. But yeah, a challenge, no doubt. Try Territories. It employs the famous YYZ patterns:

YYZ triplets (example):
--2-2----2-2-----||--5-5----5-5-----

-------------------||-------------------

Territories triplets (example):
--5-5----7-7-----||
-/-----7------7---||
-------------------||
-------------------||

If you can get good at these patterns and Geddy's feel, many of these Wal songs can be relatively easier to play. The Big Money, Time Stand Still, and Open Secrets use a lot of hammer-on/pull-off lines.

Another famous Geddy pattern is the Show Don't Tell (opening/pre-chorus), Prime-Mover (line after first chorus), and Malignant Narcissism using alternating plucking. Those are fun, but difficult to master.

The way I got decent at the YYZ triplets was to first practice Where's My Thing, which uses a similar pattern. It's slower, however, so it's better to get the fingerings right. Then move on to Territories and YYZ.

Anyone have any idea of how much duties and taxes are running on a new Wal shipped to the US? When I first ordered mine I used a special calculator to figure the cost but now it’s not working. It is saying I would owe nothing, and I am sure there is no way that’s going to happen. Also anyone know if overzealous customs agents have ever targeted any Wal basses for violation of the Lacey Act?

When I restored my white MkI I discovered the new Paul-era knob markers are smaller diameter than the originals, I had no choice since mine were gone. You have to fill the hole and drill for smaller size. Yes those holes go all the way through the facing, you push the stem of the marker from the inside of the control cavity.

I got the duty and import calculator to work again. Looks like I'll owe about $362 dollars for my bass. Unless this thing is really wrong, I know I couldn't afford to go to the UK for that price.

Yeah the price I got was just for duties. That's not including the shipping, but with the current exchange rate the shipping and duties would be around $959.

I've had two basses shipped from the UK, Bass Direct charged me £100, the other was closer to $300 cause the seller was unwilling to deal with shipping and I had to manage it myself.

Here's what the 'metal studs' look like. I had to put one on my Black Mk I since it was missing one over the volume control. The hole was slightly bigger. Paul said to use either super glue or ummmm...(not sure the other one but I wanna say epoxy)... Anyhu I chose super glue since it was the easiest also since the hole wasn't really big, so a dab was sufficient.

I bought a couple extra's but here it is ..(never know if I'll ever need them for another used Wal purchase ). Also these are what the pole pieces look like.

Hey guys, I have noticed a couple people on here that have new builds on the way have ordered MKI's. Just out of complete curiosity what does the MKI offer you that the MKII or MKIII does not? Since I got my MKI I have itched for an MKII or MKIII instead. They have a full 24 fret neck. Longer horn which makes them balance better. I guess I was just kind of curious why somebody would go with an MKI over an MKII or MKIII. Is the price different on a new one?
