I love this! I was thinking about doing a one pickup fretless build sometime in the future, but haven't though into it more than that as it's a long way off.

agreed - something's missing here... I'm not in for that one. But if anybody thinks about selling his/her MK2 / MK3 4 string w/ maple topping please get back to me

Looks like I'm in the club... I bought that red MKI for sale in the classifieds last night. It looks better in person than in Justin's pics (no offense to your photography skillz, man!). You can really see the birsdeye facings through the finish. It needs new strings and a little tweakin', but I'm a tweaker...

hey guys, just curious......trying to weigh out some options and wanted to see if someone out there either has

* a spare fretted Mk I neck they wouldn't mind parting with

OR

* have an interest of going fretless and swapping necks (fretless for fretted) or straight out trade for my American Walnut Mk I fretless bass with a fretted Mk I bass. (Wal for Wal trade)

If anyone falls in this category let me know....i have a couple other options, but wanted to throw this out before i narrow it down.

Here's my new shiny toy, I recapped the board, put new DR high beams on and did a quick and dirty setup. Cell pics, but man... this thing is hard to photograph! The grain is way purdy-er in person...

What is the fingerboard on that Geddy? Looks like ebony but the control plate label says something else that I can't read.

The plate says rosewood, but that is clearly an ebony board

Does anybody know offhand the thread size and pitch of the screws for the back electronics cover? This thing's missing three of them. I thought they might be 4-40's, but the screws are so short it's hard to tell.

edit - I read elsewhere on TB that the screws are custom made. So in order to make this bass as correct as possible, I emailed Paul and asked if I could buy them from Electric Wood. I'll let you guys know what he says...

I believe they're a british pitch because the local screw & fitting shop couldnt match the thread size.
They cost something like 2 bucks each from Wal.

Thanks, I was wondering about that. I think they're called whitworth screws, they have SAE diameters but weird thread pitches.

They also have different heads, they don't fit standard Phillips bits properly

I noticed that! I have a pretty good selection of Phillips bits and none of them really fit right. I had to keep the downward pressure on to keep from "camming out" and stripping the heads as they say.
