That's not accurate. Paypal won't charge you with any fees, no matter if you pay using a credit card or a bank account (and they will charge the same fees to the seller no matter how the buyer funded the transaction) - unless you need some currency conversion (and in that case you should rather have the credit card company do the conversion, they are usually cheaper).

Paul asks buyers to add the fees when they pay using PayPal, a thing which is actually now allowed according to PayPal's terms and conditions.

Thanks for the info. After hearing this and watching some videos I'm convinced the B string would be plenty tight and aggressive even without a 35 inch scale. The weight won't really bother me. I guess I just have to decide if I want to take the plunge. No I have never been a 5 string guy but this new band is kinda calling for it. Hmm tough decision.

Hey guys. I really want a Wal. I've been GASsing for one for the almost 20 years I've been playing. There is one in the classifieds now. A mkii 5 string fretless. Looks like a dream. I see it was made in 95 and Paul signed it as the builder. Listed for 5100. I'm probably never going to see one of these pop up again that often. Did you guys see it?

Looks very nice. My advice for a first Wal is to make a move on the exact one you want, so if this one fits the bill then go for it.

The beauty of a bass at this level is you can get exactly what you want with a little patience and no compromising. If you had your heart set on something this bass is missing then the alternative is to place a deposit on a new one. Heck, two years is going to pass anyway so it's not as if you're losing anything by getting on the waiting list. I'm sure there are compulsive Wal buyers who get right back on the list after they take delivery. Two years to pay off gradually if you're so inclined makes a Wal seem almost free.

Thank you. That was wonderfully said. I generally go with my heart on a bass. But, it's usually because it's in my hand. This one is a far cry away from me in NJ. It's in Germany. I know prices fluctuate on these like crazy. If I can make it happen, I will.

I don't think the prices really fluctuate that much, you should expect to pay somewhere between $5000 at the low end, and $6800ish for a pristine or unusual bass. I think his asking price is not out of line, considering the condition and the addition of the original dog bone case, seems low to me.

NNOOOWWWW This doesn't include fees your credit card may charge for the exchange in currency...this is usually a small percentage. Last time i used a credit card overseas, i think i recall getting charged an addition 1.5% or 2.5% of the charged amount by my CC company.

As far as Paul asking for the buyer to pay the fees.

This is found in the user agreement and can be read for interpretation

3.4 No Surcharges. You agree that you will not impose a surcharge or any other fee for accepting PayPal as a payment method. You may charge a handling fee in connection with the sale of goods or services, as long as the handling fee is not higher than the handling fee you charge for non-PayPal transactions.

sooo Wal is getting charged 3.9% and he ask for 3%....which doesn't exceed that amount.

To clarify there are two different options in PayPal. One is to send money, and the other is to pay for goods and services. When paying Paul you don't send money, you pay for goods and services. The model above looks like you're dealing with the pay money option.

I have sent Paul two payments this week, one debit and one credit card. In both cases the fees were identical and clearly shown before I clicked the button to pay. It works out to around 5 percent. You will know in advance the exact amount being deducted for fees. There is no guessing involved. Overall it's negligible when dealing with international commerce. You aren't paying VAT. You should still expect to pay taxes when you import unless you're up for playing games with customs to try and save a few hundred bucks on your new $7000 bass.

I found PayPal far more convenient than the bank transfer process which is more time consuming, has fees on the front end to me, plus fees on the back end that are opaque to me,

If this is a deal breaker for anyone PM me and we'll discuss buying you out of your spot in line. :)
