Steve Chesney has had like four or five of them. And another guy on facebook recently posted his all natural maple on maple Mk2. And a there a few in the old registry.

Erik Anderssen, who was another multi Wal fan and a stalwart of the old Yahoo Group also had some maple board basses back in the late 1990s and early 2000s. Wonder whatever happened to him...?

I was bored so I started digging through some of my very early posts on TB and I found this thread I started.

Wal Basses(for a change)

Even way back then I was GASing for a Wal. It took me almost 8 years to the day after that thread was created to finally get one (thread was made on March 5, 2009 and I bought my Wal on March 8 of this year).

Which bass did you get? I don't see your name on the club # list either (hint hint :))

The March 2009 thread was neat to see. Especially when the first new Paul Wal rolled out on April 2009.

Just wanted to chime in now that I'm finally the owner of one of these fine instruments. It's a beautiful four-string, fretted mk3. Haven't had a chance to take pics yet but you can see it here. Thanks to @berklee46 for deciding to sell it after all (and for probably the best packaging job ever). Also, thanks to @bassballs27 whose mk2 I very nearly purchased before I ended up with the mk3.

I'm really loving it so far. It's taken me the last few days to really dial in the electronics. There's definitely a learning curve but now that I've got the hang of it, it's exactly what I had hoped it would be. I've already recorded with it on some tunes I'm working on with the guitar player from my former band and it sounds amazing. I'm really looking forward to playing live with it.

Well "Beech Girl" (Oddio's old bass) made it out of her case today. I have to start playing this bass more. It just sings! I have had this bass for almost 5 years now and it has NEVER even left the house. Its too mint. Not sure when Paul started working for Wal and Pete...but this bass is 20 years old and it looks like it was made 6 months ago. Even back then Pauls craft-mans ship shines through. I have moved 3 times since owning her and never once had to adjust the truss rod. This is also the only bass i have ever owned that had SIMS l.e.d top markers. Pretty cool option.
Oddio also had the neck pup moved a bit back. Gives it some extra edge! This bass i will "take to my grave" lol

I have seen pics of that baby on a few different sites. Definitely one of the coolest and most unique pieces of wood ever put on an instrument. It looks like a lava lamp or something. You're very lucky to have it.

Dean, I don't believe Oddio had this built. from what I remember reading it was built for a guy named andrew lusher - "walbassist" in 1997.
