Well "Beech Girl" (Oddio's old bass) made it out of her case today. I have to start playing this bass more. It just sings! I have had this bass for almost 5 years now and it has NEVER even left the house. Its too mint. Not sure when Paul started working for Wal and Pete...but this bass is 20 years old and it looks like it was made 6 months ago. Even back then Pauls craft-mans ship shines through. I have moved 3 times since owning her and never once had to adjust the truss rod. This is also the only bass i have ever owned that had SIMS l.e.d top markers. Pretty cool option.
Oddio also had the neck pup moved a bit back. Gives it some extra edge! This bass i will "take to my grave" lol
Such a DEADLY bass......this one is EXTRA EXTRA special. The LED's are a nice touch too....but man does it sound and play great. Thanks so much again for letting me check it out Dean! Don't EVER let that one go!

The courier has just left leaving this behind. 29 years old this month and one new body later here is my Ian Waller built black poly with a new Paul Herman birdseye maple body. The black neck and hardware look superb with the body.

For some reason I never had a Wal case. When I bought it back in 1988 It was delivered in a flightcase which was built like a tank and was completely impractical for me. I used it to ship the bass back to Paul and asked him to ship it back in a new case.

Thats different than my experience. My Wal arrived in a very cheap plastic hardshell case. It wasnt fitted and I imagine the bass shifted around during the delivery process. I was quite surprised.

Scroll down until you see the pic of just the Beech girl. The pic above it (with the 3 Wals in it)...The black MKI in that pic, is the same bass that is in my sig. A buddy of mine who came to Andrews place with me, didnt have enough $$ at the time, so i bought both and was lucky enough to play that bass for about 6 months until he came up with the cake. I also did alot of free work for him on it. Including ordering some new parts from Paul. The pup pole pieces were pretty much stripped and now has new ones.
I also bought Andrews TC Electronic Blacksmith and 2x10,2x12 cabs. That rig will rip your face off lol

LOL!!! ya my grey dog bone case that had my Wal Midi mk2 smelled kind of funny too. Believe it smelled like incense. i vacuumed it thoroughly and soaked it with this and had it air out for about a week.
smell be gone now!!!
The flight case was indeed an official Wal optional case. I had one too for my Mk1's and it was cool for about 5 minutes, but a pain beyond that. It went with my black Mk1 when I sold it.
The Hollywood Wal dealer back in the 90's told me that they had been having issues with Wals arriving damaged in the fiberglass dogbone cases; they fit so tightly that when the shipments got bumped hard or slammed, the rivets for the bottom latch would jab into to body. So after too many damaged Wals, they were having Pete send every shipment to their store in flightcases.
However, I much prefer the current Wal/Hiscox cases, so much sturdier and more practical all around.
By chance, did your 2000 arrive in a torpedo case like this? My Mar/2000 Mk2 seems to have come with this early Hiscox 'Jumbo'. I hate it, the bass definitely swims in it.
come to think of it, the 6er @BWorm just got looks like a similiar case. I wonder if Rob got it from Wal or is aftermarket.
Nope. Not even that nice. No joke, it arrived in a cheapo SKB style hardshell case. When I ordered the bass, I just figured it would come in something nicer and didnt even bother asking to confirm. Luckily the bass arrived in good condition and Ive gotten a hard gig bag for it since then. I saw a Wal case on ebay a few weeks(?) ago for around $500.
I use a piece of wunderbaum tree vanilla in the case if I have problems with a funky smell!
