Chris, Paul is not using Hipshots anymore, he's using all-Schallers now. The tuner I posted is what he is now using on the Mk3 headstocks.
So the Mk1/Mk2 are now using the M4-S Lights.
The Mk3 is using the M4-90 Lights.

So yeah, when you order a new bass it's going to have lighter tuners than your blue Mk2 (it had the old M4S).

Wow. That’s crazy. The one on eBay is still sitting there with no activity. Almost out of time too. I wonder if it’ll get re listed. I understand people splurging because they don’t want to wait for 2 years for a new one but man...once you’re passing the 6k mark you’re 3/4 of the way to a brand new build with all the specs that you want. To each their own though. Congrats on the buyers for picking up a Wal and congrats to the seller for making a killing on it!

i'm digging the antiquey look of the first one on the left....too bad it woudn't match with any of the other hardware on the bass.

The Wal necks don't really feel "chunky" to me. I had a 4 string fretless Warwick vette standard that weighed 10.7 lbs that had Louisville like neck which was chunky. As far as the profile goes, I have two Wals with a medium v necks. IME, i find these ones just slightly more comfortable when i play them - which is why i asked Paul on one of my current builds to go with a slightly more pronounced V profile.... so ya if you, had a specific preference on how you want your neck - let Paul know.

I see. My hands are quite small and usually incompatible with 40+mm wide necks, regardless of technique. The profile added more mass that I'm not used to.

I am planning to visit Paul and the workshop to get this over with once and for all. If all goes well it should be quite the trip.

Yeah I totally understand what you mean.. Not many people make the trek out there, but some do. It may be better to not play a Wal unless it is yours, cause you will not want to give it back. They sound and feel THAT good. Thats great you are able to buy a Wal at such a young age. You wont regret it!!

I was thinking about that.. The cops might be involved if I go meet someone just to try it out. :roflmao:

My thinking is, I'll sacrifice time and money now for a lifetime of fun. Anyone can buy a car at any time, but not everyone can get their dream item. They'll lust over it for years, unfortunately.

Wow that is exotic. Can you describe the carbon neck reinforcement? Does that mean graphite slabs will be used as neck laminates?

@Caca de Kick or @kulit17 would probably know better than me, but I am not aware of any Wal using graphite neck laminates.
There are two types of neck "reinforcement". One is the steel truss rod used to pre-load the neck tension. The other are the laminate stringers built into the neck construction. I would assume if Paul is using carbon in the neck, he is referring to graphite laminates as opposed to standard mahogany laminates.
