Hey everyone, thank you for the input. I too " drop everything" when it's time to ship. When I sold my 5 string fretless mk3 last week, the buyer paid for it on a Tuesday night and I had it packaged that night and shipped the next day, he received it just two days later. I did receive an update this morning on my red midi....with pictures of the bass and interface on the scale at FedEx. Hopefully it is currently en route. It is hard to remain "cool" when spending so much on a bass...especially having been burned in the past.... some of you may recall my first Wal purchase, a schedua six string. The bass was listed as MINT, I purchased it and when it arrived it had a crack on the back of the neck, which I thought I had seen in the photos of the bass before it was sold, as well as a busted truss rod. The seller still to this day says he never knew of the crack, although I still have the original photo showing the hairline fracture. I sure do wish people could be a little more honest and forthcoming. Anyway, it appears one can't be too careful in situations like this. If I could do it all over again I would certainly "make a road trip" as Sean @Codsak put it. Lol.

I have a problem. ........ ok....a few.
Now please dont say "turn down the volume" or else i will lose my mind (moreso)...
I have numerous basses - only one Wal tho (until Jose @kulit17) sells me something.
OK - so my setup (in my 24x22ft music area - with soundproofing walls/ceiling etc) ...the basses go through a Fender Bassman 100T into a few pedals into mesa410 .... i have my 100T set to the 25W mode - so it is barely breathing..... ALL my other basses that run through this, are tweakable with a few fondles of the giggle switches - play...sounds great...no problem.
I plug in the Wal - and it nearly vibrates my door off - yes uber cool - but hard to control. It doesnt seem to matter what the giggle switches are tuned too - the volume on the Bassman is at 3 - or less......the volume on the Wal at 1. ...re-read that - volume at ONE... pathetic ....lol...It gets boomy low end and i get asked by the woman that lives upstairs (oh..wait thats my wife trying to watch TV) to change basses. She KNOWS when the Wal gets plugged in. Funny actually.
So..for REAL....what am i doing wrong...the pedals are diamond compressor...Fulltone OCD V2.... or sometimes i disengage the OCD and run thru a Sansamp...less boomy...but still there. I like the OCD better - but im open to suggestions. The Wal battery is also new within the last couple weeks....
My thoughts are the Wal's electronics are SO sensitive to pedals, that i need to rethink them? or minimize them? Or is there a common pedal that is needed - i like a grind (not fuzz) to the tones....h e l p

easy, invite @Toolmybass to your flat and have it straightened out

you could also play around with the trim settings and make sure its not overloading your pedals

...lol.... you're right tho. Maybe i will call him and go for a drive with my pedal board and my bass. I even think he even likes beer too - match made in heaven!

Sorry, an adjustable high-pass filter, like a Broughton HPF, could allow you to find and reduce the low frequency that is apparently the resonance frequency of your door. That would cut lows for practice but not for gigs or playing in other places, just turn off the HPF without having to reset pots in your bass.googling...thx

I got this directly from Paul:
"Our pickups have a fairly high output so it's not necessary to have them set too close to the strings. We recommend not to have the pickups set too high as they have a powerful magnetic field that can interfere with the strings natural vibration. The overall pickup heights are set and measured whilst holding down(fretting) the E and G strings at the 21fret. The distance between the top of the pickup pole piece and the bottom of the string should be approximately 6mm on the E string and 5.5mm on the G string approx. Yes, you could raise them slightly but just be aware the closer the string to the pickup, the louder the output, also given more of an "edge" and compression. You may have to adjust the input level on your amp if you find it overloading."
The Wal is loud and powerful, isn't it? What I usually do it just turn the input gain down on my amp. Then you can adjust the overall output gain to your liking. Otherwise, you could just mess with the controls in the cavity for overall output. That way you never have to worry about it again.
Try turning down the volume control on the bass, at least as a troubleshooting step. Wals have a ton of output.
yes the Wal has way higher output than most basses. That's why there is a trim pot for reducing the internal gain of the bass. You can get it to match your other basses.
If boomy bass is also a problem, there are trims for that too.
use the picture posted above as your guide:
1) trims low end from neck pickup
2) trims low end from bridge pickup
3) adjusts level of pick attack
4) adjusts overall output gain of bass.

There is a lot of adjustability... set up a Wal correctly, no need for an HPF.
An HPF would be an amp issue to me.
What does Wal HQ have these set at from the shop? I've messed with them a bit just to see, but I end up putting them back the way I found them which is 12 o'clock I believe. I keep the output turned all the way up. It gets too complicated to fool with these plus the knobs on the outside of the bass body and then finally your amp settings. I'd rather not fuss so much.
What settings do you like inside the cavity (general group question)?
I don't know how they are set at the factory but I set my volume at full, the pick attack slightly backed off...it sounds pretty shrill when it's maxed in my opinion. As far as the pickups, I set the bass all the way up on the bridge and rolled it off about a quarter turn on the neck pickup as it got a little boomy.
Also, I did not realize both pickups are usually adjusted this way. Same height for each? I had mine recently set up by my luthier and he raised the bridge pickup considerably higher than the neck. He said he thought it sounded better this way with the super light gauged funkmasters I had put on.
Do any of you guys mess with the height of your pickups?
The factory setting of the trims is max output, max low end on both of the trims, and midway on the pick attack.
now with that said, I had two 4 strings (a Mk1 and a Mk2) that for some odd reason had very boomy preamps that none of my other Wals did. those two I had to trim back to match.
I got my MK1 setup by my luthier and he had adjusted the pickup height in kind of an odd way as well. He had the bass side of the neck pickup dipped considerably lower than the other side as well as the bridge. Don't know why...obviously it's just what he thought sounded good but I felt the E string lost a little growl and I raised it back up. On my MK3 both pickups are set dead even with each other.
