New Bass Day.... finally made it. My first 5 string Mk2, also with MIDI capabilities. I have not had the chance to hook up the Midi interface yet, but the bass itself sounds undeniably different from a mk1 or Mk3.

I have a question (I don't understand the differences in capacitors), but why does Wal use the beer can caps that eventually leak, why not eliminate the risk, and use a different cap of the same value (like the tear drop one's) that don't leak?

shorted winded answer.... "ceramic capacitors suffer from microphonic effects: the audio passing through the part will actually physically resonate and cause distortion!"

Hipshot recently changed their model to one based around a Grover Titan tuner... it's an EB4.

I've an old style on my Pro and a new style on my 85 Mk1...

I would recommend trying the damnation audio MBD-1. I'm a huge pedal nerd and have gone through probably 70 dirt pedals and the MBD is a keeper for sure. The broughton terraformer is great too but it can't get as dirty as you may need, definitely suited for a more mild grind sound. Those are my two favorites but I also really liked the EQD Monarch, Zvex Basstortion, and Xotic effects B.B. bass preamp. Check out the videos on my YouTube page as all my demos are done with a Wal. I've done demos of all of those as well as dozens of other effects. Good chance to hear how pedals sound with the bass you'd be using and no post recording effects. I also don't use an amp for my videos so you're just hearing the Wal and the pedal DI'd into the board.

I'm currently using the DSM Drive Maker as an always-on boost (just a kick of character).

Then I have a few loops, such as:

• MBD-1 as a mild distortion
• B7KU
• MBD-1 + B7KU (this is an AWESOME combination!)

The nice thing about the MBD-1 is that it's really versatile, it can act as a mild OD or get into the fuzz-like territory, but I really like it because it's not muddy, it's really articulate! Also, it has an amazing clean blend, trust me it adds so much balls to the sound in a WET-only chain (even though personally I use the LS-2 to always keep a clean "channel").
