Sun’s out, guns out. My weapons of choice:
2016 Mk 1 fretless, ebony fingerboard and zebrano facings. 2018 Mk 1 fretted, rosewood fingerboard, spalted/quilted maple facings with black headstock (face only) and black hardware.
They both kill, but the fretless will always be my baby.

That’s the best Zebrano grain I’ve ever seen, love it. I had a 1985 MK1 4 fretless in Paduk.

Stunning! I’ve never seen a non-straight line style of Zebrano before! What do they call this style?
Thanks, guys (appreciate the love). I think most builders working with zebrano use quartersawn lumber for their tops, which typically yields a straight grain (i.e., “zebra stripe” - hence the name - see example)
but the guys at Wal must’ve cut it at a bias, yielding a much more (to me, at least) interesting grain pattern.
The grain on that bass is impressive, but you made a great choice with the paint job. It's making me think twice about keeping mine just clear high gloss.
Clear gloss is fantastic...but so are the solid finishes too. The sound of the polyester is truly something on a Wal.
Helps tighten up the tone to my ears.

That Zebrano top really is something else! Wal have always worked hard at picking great wood and Paul still does. Oh, and I also love those little hints of spalting (I presume) in the quilted maple top - or is that sycamore? Quilt can look a bit too flashy and bling-y (yes Mr Reed-Smith, I'm looking at you) but that supposed "blemish" really lifts the top and makes it a bit special.

I was thinking the same thing.... pictures over three and a half years old. That bass gets around!
Lol those pictures are actually 7 years old...my daughter was almost 2 y.o back then with her tiny hands.....wow time flies!!!
