If you just sold that Mk1, couldn't you put that $ toward a new Mk2? That's quite a chunk well paid toward if so.
There are wayyyy more people waiting for a 4 string Mk2 to come up than we see come up per year. I keep saying to the folks that were looking for a specific one 1-2 years ago. If you had just done it then, you'd be there now or close to now.

Don't sell your 5ers.

These are words of wisdom. I was gonna put a deposit on a new Wal in October 2017. I said I’d hang tight and wait for used. Here we are in June of 2019. Never got ahold of what I wanted, don’t have a deposit down on a new one. Not to mention I’d be in the home stretch of my build at this point and for a lower price. They’ve gone up even higher since then and you can bet they’ll go up again by 2020. If you have the money just put a deposit down. You can always sell a 5er later to recoup the cash if money is the culprit.

I don't regret my decision to order my Mk2 early last year. It would make me feel like a total dummy if I waited this long for a Wal, not getting one while still lurking this thread for years.

Oh yeah, its happened to me...I can think of three Wals that popped up that after I ordered. But in the end I got exactly what I wanted.

My issue with any of the Wal 4s I’ve played is I’ve had a tough time getting really low action across the fretboard.
Lots of buzzing or slight neck twists or humps. It’s a real pain, but we’re all at the mercy of wood.

As I said in an earlier post, I should just stick with 5s and forget 4s. Lightning doesn’t strike twice and sure got lucky with what I own.

Let me first state that both of my 5 string MK2s are fantastic. But the simple answer is I have two of them. Both are Poly but how they differ is with fretboard material and facings. One is Indian rosewood and the other Indian Ebony.
Facings are Walnut VS Zebranowood.
And I will humbly admit that there is tonal difference between the two.

Where the big problem lies is trying to obtain a 4 string Wal these days aside from ordering new. The supply outweighs the demand. It is what it is.

Actually, that Walnut MK2 5 may have beat your MK2. To be more honest though, I didn’t like your former Walnut 4 string with super low action.
It just didn’t work for my playing style.
Ironically, I found this issue with the old MK1 I just sold.

Ironically both of my 5s pass with flying colours. Fantastic necks on these basses and maybe your right, I should just keep them. But then trying to get a Wal MK2 4 string I actually like...well I think new is almost the only way at this point.
I’m just more hopeful that a trade would work out.

Yep, both are great.
It’s a problem. But a good one!

Hard to say but it’s too late now.

After owning three other Wals since,
I still have an issue with the wax finish on Wals and much prefer the Polyester finish. So, I made the call to let it go.
The new owner had issues with it too by the way. But sadly, it didn’t make through his house fire.

Hard to say whether you could set it up the way I wanted. I would have definitely messed with your setup regardless.

My current MKII took me months (accounting for knob twisting) to get it the way i wanted. Lol The Walnut was almost “plug and play”
All my basses live in their cases and have a humidor and hygrometer in each one to keep from moving a smidge.
As you know, living in Canada, a perfect set-up can go askew when humidity drops (+’s) 20% in a matter of 24hrs.

Thats pretty easy when you bring another bass thats set-up exactly the way you want it.

Just for info, though. The matt finish Wals don’t have a wax finish (unless it’s a very unusual one off Custom finish). It’s a thin matt acid catalysed polyurethane varnish. Never come across one with a wax or oiled finish.

Really? It’s actually polyurethane based?
That explains a lot actually but the fact that it’s thin makes it more interesting.
I wonder if Wal ever bothered with Nitrocellulose or maybe this was the next closest thing?

I have no 4s left at the moment either.

It’s weird, almost like I’m not supposed to play them. Well...more 5s for me then! Lol
