We all think this but yes its the risk we take on custom builds....but its like Mike mentioned... this with all builders, Alembic, fodera, Carl Thompson, etc.... why would it be any different with Wals?!?

Now you are being sarcastic! I never said anything negative on Wal basses itself. I own three of them for a reason. But looks like somehow you are not allowed to say anything about the prices or waiting list in this topic....

Fair enough but I think the waiting times of Fodera and Alembic are 'only' a year or so. Not sure about the exact waiting times though. That makes a difference.

Both Fodera and Alembic have way more than two people in their workshops.
Fodera has about 10(?) people from the looks of it. That would make a huge difference.

At this point, if I were Paul of course, I would just keep raising prices until I see a slow down in orders. Even then, he might WANT to keep going in order try and get the wait back below 2 years. By the looks of the market for Wals recently, he's going to be raising prices for quite a while.

Yes if people keep ordering and are willing to pay I don't see why he wouldn't raise the prices. I wonder what the limit of the price is before people stop ordering though.
He could also decide not to take any new orders and finish the waiting list first. Or finish the waiting list until there is only a year wait and then start taking new orders. But that's for him to decide.
With such a long waiting list I also wonder why he doesn't have more than two people working. But I admire that he is keeping it small.

Really wish I looked at this listing closer, I work in the town this Wal sold in!
I haven't had the honor of playing a MK1 or 2 I would have messaged this person hoping they were a Walnut and asked if we could have had a mini Wal bass hang.

That would be even more reason for Paul to stop the orders. Then he could raise the price even more. Think as a business man I would feel less pressure if the waiting list was less long and not growing.

As someone who was on a boutique custom bicycle frame builder's waiting list for over eight years (!) and got some semi-decent insight into how that builder thought, I think I can make an educated guess as to why Paul might not want to take on more employees at Wal:

- it is very conceivable that Paul is not the proprietor of Wal because he wants to be the owner of a multi-employee company, nor because he wants to increase throughput/efficiency, nor because he wants to have more time for his extracurricular hobbies, yadda-yadda-yadda... rather, it is very conceivable that Paul is the proprietor of Wal simply because he wants to build Wal basses.
