Yep, I don’t miss frets with the Wal. And I’m playing it all the time, all kinds of music, fingers, pick, slap.
Using a Mk1 but have a Mk2 on the build.
Percy, Mick, and all the Brit players are my thing. You’d need frets for the clank of Geddy, Flea, Justin etc.

If no one buys it for that price the flippers eventually will stop buying and reselling Wals....so just don't buy it for that price. :)

Not yet.. But then again I haven't specified my wood or hardware selection to Paul yet, only that it will be a 5 string mk3. My spec sheet I think had me at 45 months. I have a general idea of how long the build takes once it's actually started and I know I'm quite a way off, so I've been spending the time researching woods for both the tonal qualities I'm looking for as well as the weight I'm looking for before I actually send in my spec sheet. Though I know that even once you send that in, you can still change your specs all the way up until the build is actually underway.

Any of you Wallies have Luminlay side dot markers? I’m considering adding it to my (ever more expensive) build, along with a drop tuner. Although I don’t use lines on the fretless, I do like the odd quick glance at the dots, especially when singing. The odd dark gig I haven’t been able to see the dots on my current Wal and thought Luminlay might be a nice little option. Any thoughts and feedback would be greatly appreciated! James.

I have a 5-string Carvin fretless that is lined, with side dots at the same locations they would be on the fretboard (i.e. not at fret position, but in-between). My other fretless basses are unlined, with the side dots placed at the "fret" positions on 3, 5, 7, etc. Is the Wal default to place side dots at the "fret" positions? The Carvin style really messes with my head, I found I don't get along with lined fretless vey well, especially with the side markers not on the note.

I have Luminlays on my first build and was basically 'meh'. I had it spec'd on my second build but then took it off the spec sheet. I guess after owning Wals with LEDs, it difficult to be happy with anything in between, which why I opted out for the next two builds I had with Paul.. They do work ok, but its not as bright as I'm used to with the LED ones.

I believe their standard is on the position even if lined (ie. on the line not in between). I specified this as well just to be certain.

I have Luminlays on my Bordwell fretless. I haven't really had a chance to use it on a darkened stage yet, so I can't say how much they help. They seem a little easier to see in my practice room, so they seem like a slight (and inexpensive) upgrade over the standard dots, but I doubt they're anywhere near as bright as LEDs.
