Do you have a sound sample to compare to? Other Hot Wire basses aren't similar to Wal sound.
Just discovered this clip of an early JG being used live by the short lived Welsh band, Lone Star (not to be confused with the US country band)... He's hidden away at the back on the right but Pete Hurley is playing his JG in this BBC OGWT/Live In Concert film of Lone Star from 1977. There are a few blink and you'll miss it shots which clearly show the bass, JG1114 - one of the earliest made.
I’ve got some 4.7uf radial capacitors to replace the originals in my Mk1. Does it matter what v they are? Wal use 35v afaik, but I’ve got some 63v ones.
I just did both of my Mk1's, so I was curious about this as well. It's my understanding that you can go up, just not down and that Wal has used everything from 25v to 50v. FWIW, my Mk1's were 25v (and I replaced them with 35v) and my new Mk2 has 35v.
I'm no pro either, but it really is a pretty simple job. Make sure you check the positions of each capacitor before you pull them, and be careful not to subject the tracers to any more heat that needed (especially when cleaning up the old solder). Obviously if someone has done a video, that would be helpful. Unfortunately, I did not...
63v seems a bit odd, when I've seen 35v plentiful everywhere I've looked or bought from.
it should be fine, but Id thk the physical size of the can would be much bigger.
