Ha! While I certainly understand where you're coming from, I won't let myself get there. I bought my Wals because they sound amazing, so it would be a shame to not play them at shows/rehearsals. With a little added care of course!
Ha yeah absolutely... I think I saw a pic somewhere ( @mikeswals ?) of a stage stand, enclosed in a box with a locking piece so no one is taking the bass without the box. Don't know if that was a commercial buy or a workshop solution but I'd definitely do that.
I take two to nearly every gig.
Funny you should say that... I actually keep my Wals in my tornado saferoom. But it's OK because I also play them.
Doesn't look like I'll ever be able to afford a Wal. Unless I sell every bit of gear I own. Then I'd have a Wal, yay! But no amp, no pedals, and no synths. C'est la vie. Guess it's time to put my discretionary savings towards a new upright. That's actually doable!
These prices are ridiculous but I still intend to leave my instruments to my 4 kids. I have, and in the order I got them, Rick 4000, Wal ProIIe, ACG 5-str fretless Harlot, Birdsong Corto plus a couple guitars. Gotta keep some music in the family!
Well, It doesn't have a lock. But it has straps with buttons to sort-of 'lock in' the bass so it can't tip out.
This stand was made by Gator, but they discontinued it years ago, but Fender still makes a similar one.

LMAOOO I “bought” that exact bass from Germany last year and the seller couldn’t figure out how to ship it to me... popped up again here on talkbass a few months back from a fellow in England, and the ad got like zero traffic, now it’s up for sale again

Confused, you bought this bass but you never received it and the guy from Germany ended up selling it to somebody else?
Yup that’s exactly what happened. The seller refunded me so not the end of the world obviously, but was kind of frustrating as I would rather have just received the bass.

Someone will do a PhD on the Wal market one day...and we’ll still all be wondering how it all works.
The (UK) seller on basschat says he bought it from the UK guy that bought it from Germany. So in other words, the first Brit flipped it right away.
The weird thing is the seller couldn't figure out how to ship the bass to you, seriously what a flake!!!!
