Not 'exactly' Wal related - but RUSH related ---this is a Rush tribute band - and at the 45 second mark, he explains a few riffs etc - looks like he is using a Wal replica of some sort - he mentions it IIRC.
Anywho - these guys are pretty good IMO...and the Wal group has been fairly quiet all week. lol

When I was a kid and wanted to be a bass player, before I even owned a bass, I used to pretend to play The Big Money in the shower with a shower brush. I told myself if I could ever play that I could consider myself good. Nailing the solo on my Wal when I finally got one 30-some years later was a cool moment.

I've heard these songs so many times it's easy to hear when covers like Vital Signs riffs and The Big Money are not entirely correct, but I'm not going to criticize someone brave enough to post a video of themselves playing Rush

But agreed, it's bold to even put that out there. I loved (trying) to learn The Big Money, especially the solo section. Maybe I should dig into it again now that I'm supposedly better than I was as a teenager.

Another thing... we know Rush music is difficult to play, let alone perform. If anything, watching a band do even a very credible cover makes you further appreciate just how good those guys were.

He's one of the best I've seen, one of the few that plays them the way I've heard them for decades. And he wears the appropriate album t-shirts for many of them

Hey all! Anyone here know how one can go about getting a replacement set of knobs? I've tried contacting Wal directly, but I've never gotten a reply.

Did you send him your serial and pic of your Wal when you attempted to contact them?

Also, the pot shafts diameters changed during '86, so if yours is an earlier one it'll be tricky as the newer knobs will have larger holes.

Thanks for the response. I didn't send the SN, since it's not my Wal, but my dad's, and I actually don't know the SN. It's seen better days and I was planning to surprise him by getting him new knobs and tuner and whatnot. I could probably get the SN. I emailed info@ and called the number with no luck. Is there another email address I should try?

I'm not actually sure on the year. He's had it longer than I've been alive lol.

If you can possibly get the S/N off the back neck-attachment plate (it's engraved there), we'll be able to at least roughly determine the year. If it's listed in the Wal base database, we'll know the exact year.

Cool. I'll see what I can do! I live about 800 miles from him, and I don't want to ask for the SN since I think he'll know something's up haha. Might try to get my mom to sneak it for me!

I’m intrigued by this. I had my 1980 Wal serviced by Paul a few years ago and he replaced a couple of the pots, but I definitely still have my old knobs fitted. Maybe he has a stash of the older pots for repairs?

Is your 1980 a Mk1 style?
Thats the easier direction to keep original knobs on; the early pots had smaller shafts and knobs had the smaller holes, so if he replaced the pots, then he driilled out the old knobs to fit the new larger shaft.

Its the other way around thats tricky. If you buy newer knobs and and have old style pots, then sleeves have to be made so a large hole knob fits a small shaft pot, and the grub screws need to work.

No, he doesn't have a stash of the old ones.
