Over the moon today to have received some facings options from Paul. I am looking at standard walnut facings for a fretless Mk1. The third option below probably draws me the most; but the more plain grain on the second option is handsome too. Curious what y’all folks might think.

If you go glossy 1 3 and 4 figuring could come up very nice (each in its own way, but it would), but if you’re going satin…… definitely number 2, classic and classy!

Great point on impact of gloss vs satin …. I’ve been planning on satin.

Its just a white cardboard 'mask' he lays ontop of the uncut boards so you can get an idea of how the figuring would look when cut to shape.

The top frets of the Mk2 are reachable, but nearly as reachable as they are the Mk3.

Thanks. I am not sure what you are saying though. You mean the top frets on a mk3 are better reachable than on a mk2? Are they still easily reachable on a mk2 though?

Yes, and yes. The are reachable on the Mk2, though not that easily because of the neck heel. They are more reachable on the Mk3.

Thank you for sharing, if I was ordering a Mk2 or 3, #4 would be my pick. For a MK1 #2 is easily my favorite.

Yes. The Mk2 has the big block heel and metal neck plate that you have to reach around to get at those highest frets.
The Mk3 has a deeper cut low cutaway, and the neck heel has no neck plate and so has more of a rounded angle sculpture rather than a rectangular block.

I actually looked at a couple of those facings for my build (maybe) love a nice walnut.
