Walter Woods Amps History and Development

I'm using robgrow's (before that, flatback's) '85 MI-100 2 channel. I will put some pics up, but it's pretty much identical to the 2-channel above.

I have to say that the bass boost switch makes the amp for me. I actually hit the switch and then cut the bass (otherwise it's a little too bass heavy).

When did the bass boost switch get deleted from the amp? Is it present on any of the Electracoustic or parametric MI models?

I recall that the photos of the insides of Walter's amps caused a bit of a stir last time 'round. I have my photo (which is of an "updated" 2002 Ultra, with the last update being June, 2005), but I don't want to ruffle any feathers (especially Walter's).

I do recall an interesting discussion of the various iterations on the "Ultra" and the photos did show some definite differences.

I'm ok with the photos. I don't see that taking pictures of something I paid 2K+ for and posting them on the net damages anyone. The part numbers of the things he's most concerned about are rubbed off anyhow.

Ok Folks I'm Back At Shool and I have the Pic's of the Walter Woods Ultras. Unfortunately, Since I didn't save the text I really don't have a clue as to what the differences are, But here are two of the pic's. Hopefully someone can remember what the context of the thread was.

Picture 1 is of a Ultra built in September of 2004.

Picture Number 2 is of a Ultra, since there is no date
on the chassis I can't tell you when it was manufactured.

The Ultra with the date is mine (I think), manufactured around 2000. The date was the 'update' date, when Walter fixed a scratchy pot and 'updated' the unit to current specs.

I believe the unit on the bottom is one of the post 2003 newer units. You can see there is 'less stuff' inside.

That September 94 one looks like the date is written in sharpie on the case but when I blow up the pic I can't read the heat sink fin stamp. I thought Walter just sharpied when he repaired them. Did he repair that in the same month it was made or just duplicate the stamp with the sharpie? The stamp on the fin say 2004 too?

See my post above. I confirmed the unit with the sharpie date is mine.... built December, 1999... updated September, 2004.

Just too much information:) . It took me a few minutes to realize the darn thing was actually mine!

Thanks for serving as the thread coordinator. It will be kind of fun to get this all back up, since Walter doesn't have a website, etc.

I remember seeing the different model that Walter produced on the back of the a book called THE EVOLVING BASSIST by Rufus Reid. In the back of the book he endorsed the Walter Woods Amp and it showed the different models. It was either the Ev-Bassist Book or the supplement that Rufus published a few years later. I'll if I can locate it and scan it.
