Want some really 'true' sounding cabinets

Fellow TB'ers,

I've been playing on a pair of Kustom cabs for a while (Deep End 1x15/ 4x10.) and they've been working pretty well for my rig, but I'm seriously considering changing them out for something a bit more 'true' to the tone of my bass. Having something lighter wouldn't hurt, and I'm totally cool with changing from the fifteen-and-tens stack kind of thing.

The Kustoms seem a bit flubby and loose in the low-mids and bass register (made much worse by using a 5 string), and the upper frequency content is okay, but just a little too brittle compared to other things I hear.

As far as what I have- I am pushing 650W@4ohms per channel on 2 channels.

I would prefer to stick to a 2 cabinet situation, and I need cabs that are able to handle a low B with authority. I also do a fair bit of session stuff, so cabs that can put out enough juice for a loud band would be nice. Lightweight would be another bonus, but not too critical.

Recommendations?

How do you know the "true tone" of your bass? ALl you can do is find a sound you like because there's no reference system to play through. If you're referring to the acoustic sound, you'll NEVER achieve that with any pickup.

Getting kinda close to the DI'd sound of the bass would be my definition of 'true'. The less color the cabs put on it, the better. I love the sound of my rig DI'd-- Just the right amount of everything... But once it gets to the cabs I have, that tightness is kinda gone. I don't wanna rely on FOH to DI my bass and then have it all in my monitors, though... because I rarely get any FOH support with my rig. :)

FEARful. Fearless.

That is how these cabs are designed.

The fearfuls are a great choice for this. Could probably get away with a single 15" model, although a pair of the 12's would make a compact "full stack" that hits like a hammer.

Also do yourself a favor and check out the AudioKinesis Thunderchild for studio monitor tone at gig volumes.

Any others out there?
I would add Phil Jones Bass (PJB) to the mix. I've got a PJB Suitcase combo with 4B extension cab. It's very transparent. The low end is tight and controlled even with a low-B string. Not super loud, but no boominess at all. It sounds as though your bass is plugged into a Di played through a good Hi-Fi system.

I've never used their stuff, but Euphonic Audio (EA), Epifani, and Link Removed are supposed to be very neutral as well. Also look into Acme. As far as production stuff goes, these are all supposed to be good for what you're seeking.
