OWN: bill lawrenece P46, black guard, babciz bridge (chrome), black knobs
NEED: pots/jack/cap, wire, colortone stain + filler + etc, MIM p-neck (rosewood), light tuners, strap locks, strings (cant decide on labella flats or labella ss rounds).
seems like it has a long way to go . . . not using the neck pictured, would like to finish next summer when the weather is nice.

a week or so ago i finally sent in pics of my 2 warmoth basses to their website for the customer gallery. my charger green p made it but they didn't post my trans brown p for some reason Invalid Link Removed
I built my first Warmoth in 1988.
It's gone now....I destroyed the body with too many mods. But, I really liked it because the upper and lower horns were more slender than the standard bulbous ones on Warmoth P-Basses as of late..(25 years?)
This is my newest project. Dinky Jazz with a P-Bass neck. No tuner holes yet as it's going to be a 5 string......
I bought 2 Warmoth Alder rear route P bodies in the mid to late 90s (PJ and JJ routes) and they both had the slender horns you mentioned as standard feature.I built my first Warmoth in 1988.

Maybe Fender was doing something similar with some models back then.
The more recent Warmoth P bodies I have seen for some years have standard horns like the traditional P and J basses.

so I was in boston today I decided to swing by guitar center and probably buy this bass

what a big disappointment. but I figure id post my impressions for anyone else considering this bass
at first glance its a really nice bass from a distance, alder body W/flame koa top, lots of chips and dings. wenge/bubinga neck with what looks like a macasar ebony board that had been stained black and clear coated badly with lots of chipping at the fret edges, the frets are badly worn with lots of buzzes including the open A string witch has it's bridge saddle cranked all the way up even though the neck is straight so im guessing the nut has been cut wrong. ( does not look like a warmoth nut)
the back of the neck has spots of badly raised grain like it was exposed to a lot of water but the neck/fretboard as a whole felt and looked rely dry like it has never been oiled, the strings had more rust than I have ever seen on any bass so the tone is anybodys guess. I do have other basses with wenge necks and I know it's a rough feeling wood but this neck felt more like dryroted wood to me.
the wireing was all trash except maybe the pickup, the pots are scratchy and worn out and the jack is so loose you cant even stand or move around while playing it or it makes awfull noise.
the kaller bridge has some rusted screws most of witch are at least slightly striped and the bottom front corner of the base plate is bent upwards and sticks out of the body rout by almost 1/8th inch.
all that said this was a beautifull bass at one time but that time has passed and guitar center has made no effort to dress it up for resale, I'd warn any gecko fans to stay far away from this one, it needs a fret level or possibly even a refret and rewiring at a minimum to be playable and is in bad need of refinishing as well, it is also routed and drilled for the beat up kaller bridge witch is no longer made so the buyer is stuck with that bent bridge.
sadly when I first called the GC in boston they told me it was "In really nice shape" in the end I offerd them $300 but they would not budge from the $499 price tag

Almost done with this one, my second Warmoth, but the first that came out exactly like I had hoped. Just need to get a couple coats of tru-oil on the neck and done.

I'd like to join the club. This is my first "all Warmoth" build. It's a Deluxe P/J-5 model with the Deluxe J-5 neck. EMG's, Badass V, Hipshot ultralites.
The Neck is pretty sweet with a combo of Goncalo Alves shaft, Pau Ferro fretboard, White 1-7/8" Corian Nut.
The Body is a refin and is taking way longer than expected to strip, sand, prep, and stain to a Golden Pecan. Now I'm on my 2nd coat of Tung Oil and it's coming out nice. First coat was a disaster, but I managed to salvage it and prep/apply 2nd coat. 5 layers should be fine.
It'll have the warmth from the Goncalo Alves and Alder, with the brightness from the EMG Pickup system. (Have a BQC but I'm not going w/a preamp on this one).

So I finished my Warmoth Deluxe P/J-5 this morning. Wow, refinishing the body was not easy. Still have to sand it down, fill the pores and give it one more application. But it'll be just fine for now.
The tone from the active EMG's is to die for! No preamp. Neck is straight and fret job is of better quality than a bass 3 times the price! Can you say Fender Killer? I can and just made one... Plays like butta and still under 10lbs...

After a full setup. This is an amazing sounding/playing bass. Worth the effort and investment in every way!

Hey guys, just wondering if the Standard J Bass body comes with pre drilled holes for the pickguard and control plate, I noticed there wasn't an option while building the body, let me know please, I don't want to post a new thread asking and get flamed, and I'm waiting on a reply from Warmoth but they haven't gotten back to me
My P body did not. I doubt Warmoth drills these holes in any of their bodies. They don't even include screws with their pick guards, so be aware you'll need to order some of those as well.
