Someday if I get up the guts I'd like to try to shape a Lakland Decade clone from a Warmoth shorty P body:
I'm not sure I have the woodworking chops to successfully pull off such a thing, but I may have to try. I'd love to just buy a shorty Decade, but since Lakland doesn't offer one in their Skyline series and their USA stuff is beyond my pay grade...

nah that'd be ken Warmoth . I tried to get them to do a Mustang bass body and they said they couldn't /wouldn't . oh well
Yeah, the Mustang body has never really done much for me, but that Decade shape....mmm mmm good!

Anyone have any experience with the slender 5 string necks?? I am really gassing for one, but would like to hear some comments about them.. The 5'er Warmoth I have (G5) is really bulky and fat...
I had my credit card out and ready to purchase, then I called Warmoth. I have never been so disappointed that badly from them. I asked for a custom neck. Sure he said. Then I gave them my dimensions. Nope. "We will not build that" is what he said. 1-3/4 nut with 2-1/2 heal. Pretty standard Fender measurements. I then asked for the nut to be cut for 5 strings and not 4. I was told that they cannot do that because 5 string necks do not have 2-1/2 heal's and 4 string do not come in 1-3/4 nut size. I am still in a little bit of a shock here..
I can see why you might be disappointed. However, if you were able to order a paddlehead version of the 8-string neck, you'd get something pretty close to what you were asking them to build. The 8-string necks do have a nut width of 1-3/4" and a heel width of 2-1/2".
In this case, you would need to cut the nut yourself, or get a good luthier to do the work for you. You would also need to cut your own headstock shape into the paddlehead.
The reason they probably can't do a 5-string nut on 1-3/4" on a non-Deluxe-5 neck is that they usually do all the nuts on CNC, and they probably have a fitting that holds a specific neck in place on the machine, for a specific CNC program. The CNC machine for nuts also measures the fret height and takes that into account when it cuts the string slots. I just don't think they have a fitting and a matching CNC program that works for this combo.
But I don't work for Warmoth so I can't say officially.

that being said just a few hours after finishing adjusting the intonation on this bass i was on the phone with warmoth ordering another swamp ash body and custom fretless neck, gecko #2 for me is already in the works
So ma Walnut 32" J has always been a wee noisy .The original owner I got it from had a 5 way rotary tone control wired up. Most were useless to me and so I always just left it on whatever sounded the best . It was also pretty dark sounding so today I took on a massive rewire project and tried something different + added a new Fender Super 55 split J and a GFS MM Alnico 4 conductor . V for the J and a V for each mm coil with a T for all 3 . It's kick ass , the pups sounds great and it has many useful settings .Way better than before . it's many shades of ballsy \m/
