I'd love to see more pictures of that precision on the left. I'm in the process of having something similar built, but I haven't seen many examples of what it may look like.

I got my first warmoth P bass body about two weeks ago and it's at a family friends shop getting painted. It is getting painted seafoam green with a tortoise shell pickguard. I'm going to install a EMG Geezer Butler pickup in it and I was also able to pick up a new Geddy Lee USA signature bridge from his new USA jazz bass range. And to top it all off for christmas my dad really outdid himself buy surprising me with finding a Fender Steve Harris bass neck of of the 2015 models! This bass is going to have parts from all three of my favorite bass players of all time and I can't wait to put it together!

Same body, neck and fretboard woods. I went more modern with the Nordy NJ5F's and Hipshot hardware. A little heavier than I prefer, 10.8 lbs, but I can live with it. And I know the rules, obligatory cell pics!

What was the final decision on the tone cap? Did you go VVT or VBT?

Ahhh yes... we went with .047 for the cap and it's VVT- totally passive. I'm so stoked on how the Nordy's sound. They fit my playing style very well. I'm actually considering selling a bass I thought I never would- to have another one of these built.

I have a Warmoth fretless neck on a MIM jazz and I put in Dimarzio Model J's. I love that bass. I want to build another but not sure of which pickups (JJ or P/J) and then maybe Nordstrands (either NJ5SE or NJ5F). It's not easy finding good sound samples of either of those pickups.

Did you try other cap values? .1 maybe? Depending on the pickups, that one can get too muddy but I think a .1 would work with the NJ5F's (not so much with Model J's).

We were going to, but I just fell in love with the tone of the .047 and left that one in. I may try the others at some point, but I was so eager to just play the bass that I stopped there! Yeah not too much patience on my end.. lol.

Right now I either leave the tone wide open or back it off about 1/3rd for whatever style I'm playing. I did notice that when I play through my LDS 1212/6/1 and roll the tone knob all the way back the sound is unusable. Just low low mud. Throw it through my Schroeder 15PL and I get perfect reggae tone with enough clarity. It's amazing how much dropoff of highs and mids there is through the 3-way cab with the tone knob fully backed off.

I can do a sample of my bass. That way I can say it's a Warmoth related post and still get you an idea of the Nordys.;)

Just order a brand new neck from Warmoth from their "showcase" that they are fretting (w 6150) and putting a nut on for me now. Should ship early next week. I'm pairing this to a 1-piece USACG swamp ash body. Details:


All of the parts have been ordered are pictured below (with the exception of the tuners and string tee).

The neck I just ordered from Warmoth from their in-stock section (new).

It's a 20 fret neck with canary neck wood, an ebony fretboard, and of course BLOCKS (love me some blocks)!



The body is a USACG (USA Custom Guitars) 1-piece swamp ash body (you don't see many 1-piece bodies out there)!

John East J-Retro Deluxe pre-amp (3 band with mid sweep with active/passive and master tone control)

Hipshot A style bridge

Currently the body has "Razor" brand Jazz pickups loaded in her. Not a lot of info on them other than they are Alnico 5, vintage-voiced pickups.

This should be one bad-ass Jazz! Can't wait to put her together!

@Freddels ... My new Warmoth direct into Focusrite 2i2. I went VERY VERY BASIC as far as a bass line. My main goal was to show the differences between a couple settings and some of the range of the tone knob. so that said.... here's what I recorded. It's all fingerstyle except the slap part obviously.

Both pups 100%/tone knob 100%
neck 75-bridge 100/tone knob 100 - rear pup hand placement
neck 100 bridge 75/tone 100 - neck pup hand placement
slap - both pups 100/tone 100
both pups 100 /tone 60
both pups 100 tone off

It was a custom body, so I don't have a showcase weight and didn't think to weigh the parts before assembly. Great idea for the next build!

In hindsight I might not have paid for the chambering. But for comparison, the chambered mahogany is considerably lighter than the chambered walnut on the JJJ which almost has "body dive" if there was such a thing.
