Warmoth Owners Club!!

My Warmoth build with Sadowsky Pickups and preamp. This Warmoth neck reminded me of my Sadowsky RV4, so, I decided to do a Warmoth / Sadowsky build with Sadowsky Single Coil Pickups and Preamp. It turned out better than expected.

I'm thinking I will swap the fretless J Bass neck off of this bass and onto a J Bass body. Then I'm going fretted with this one.

I'm toying with the idea of going with a Moses graphite neck for this Z Bass.

Or maybe a Warmoth neck.

Or something else.

Man I'd love to see this with either a Moses or Warmoth 2+2 headstock.
Anyone built a Z4 with 2+2 headstock?

Did a warmoth reshave of a neck to a slimmer profile on my go to bass. After hours of filing and sanding I must say the neck feels super fast and smooth hit it with clear gloss and done.. Wanted to keep the headstock in reliced style.. Warmoth makes some truly good stuff to bad resale isnt what it should be.

Or you can use a Schaller bridge, which has a much larger range of adjustment. For example:

Regarding the 17.5mm spacing, the Hipshot A saddles will move ~2mm to either side which allows you close to 18.5" max with the B and G pushed to either edge. I've done this on two fivers - PJ and JJ, and the strings line up fine.

Another option now is to use the Hipshot Kickass which matches the Badass V drill pattern they offer.

Nice is that neck all pau ferro? Roasted maple? cant really tell.

Day 17 since placing my order for a showcase body with no finish and a showcase neck with only fretting.

Called them yesterday and got bad news. My body suffered a catastrophic failure during routing. Spike helped me out, found another body that's really close to what I had originally ordered. It's still under 4 pounds but will be a few ounces heavier.

The Hipshot A arrived, and I ordered 5 hipshot ultralite tuners. I have a pair of Seymour Duncan 5 string jazz bass pickups, they are 67/70s. I'm not sure if I want to use them or find something else. I may just install them and keep them until I get something I like better.

Still need to figure out what I want to use for a pre-amp. I have three other basses and they are all passive, so I'd like this one to be active. I'm leaning heavily towards the dark glass tone capsule, but I'd have to wire a stacked pot into it as I will only have three holes in the body for controls.

Any guesses as to how much it will weigh when done? Body is under 4 pounds, it will have steel reinforcement rods in the neck and ultralite tuners. I'm thinking around 8 pounds.

FWIW, I have the SD 67/70 jazz pickups in the white bass I posted above - I love them - LOVE them!! I am surprised there isn't more talk about them here. I wish they made them in four string versions. I find JB's can be a bit finicky, and these just make everything easy. I also have one in the bridge of my PJ5 and it plays beautifully with a Nordy P.

I loved my SD 67/70's. Regret ever selling them.

Indeed, they are my favorite jazz pickups - surprised they don't get more press. I recently asked SD why they don't make a four string version of them and they replied that they are modeled after the SBJ-1's, but I'm not so sure of the similarities; the SBJ-1's from what I recall are a more scooped sounding. Anyway, I digress...

Does anyone here know where I can get a pickguard that fits Warmoth Deluxe 5 J body and neck that has the cutout for truss rod access at the body? Frankly I can't believe Warmoth does not offer them. I have looked online and contacted Warmoth. I'd rather not attempt to modify the stock Warmoth pickguard. However, I don't want to have to remove my pickguard (or loosen neck bolts) in order to make truss rod adjustments. Thanks.

My Noll preamp that was ordered in late July finally arrived and has been installed. I had a bit of hum, turns out the polarity on my pickups was the same, so I took one out and flipped it over under it's cover. Problem solved. The Noll sounds great.

So can I officially join the club now that my build is complete?
