Warmoth Owners Club!!

VVT controls (like a Jazz bass) with Series/Parallel toggle switch, OBP-1 @ 18v and bypass switch.
I found that the OBP-1 starts to sound really killer once controls get above 30%. I have to turn again on my amp down as the Volume output of the bass gets pretty high when compared to my others.
I was on the fence about getting the Duncan STC-3MM preamp, but went with the OBP blind. I still wonder if I’ve made the right choice. I find that the Duncan preamp sounds very close to the 2-band MM preamp, especially the top-end. The OBP has a totally different character, kind of like a Sadowsky preamp (both were designed by Alex Aguilar…go figure)

Probably the best playing/feeling bass I’ve ever had. I’d absolutely love to do another, but a fully passive Jazz 5 Deluxe with straight single coils.

I absolutely love this and it being a different flavor of a sweet spot. I have a Modulus Q5 with an EMG in the sweet spot, 3 band with mid sweep.

My Warmoth in the making is a sweet spot and will be passive with a Nordy Big Splitman. Volume - tone - 4 way selector.

Next build I just sent off for will be more in line with an old school stingray clone. Have a John East MMSR 2 band and a Nordy 4.2

I’ve been meaning to give an OP1 a go in one of my builds, your review nudges me further.

Thank you for sharing, such a rad build.

I've posted this on TB before, but this is all Warmoth (with Sims LEDs)

I don't think they do the 8 string neck anymore

This is a warmoth body back when they did 2tek templates for the bridge. Moses graphite neck.

How do you like the Moses? I keep coming back to this picture and staring and makes me question what bass I need to put my Status on….

I really love it, but it does sound very bright. feels great and plays fast. Frets are a little low for my general tastes. Not sure if that is the pickup (bartolini 8CBP) but i don't think it is.

Just recorded a tune with it and it definitely has a distinctive sound. Probably all the components together.

My Modulus is quite bright as well. Started using pure nickels for a long time but now it wears bridge cables for drop G lol. I’ve found a hi-pass and low-pass filters really help hone it in.

Really interested in how the Status fares, it’s much lighter than other CF necks I’ve played. I will say the Klos I plaid at Music Go Round last year was super light and the neck felt crazy light. There was a lot of top end but I will say that it was much less brash and much smoother than say my Modulus which was a beast that needed taming with the EMG’s (I feel some wooly barts might do what I want better in that bass).

Still having a hard time deciding which body to put the Status on. The next Warmoth to get finished is the 1pc Limba which I’m resolute in being passive and wearing the Aluminati Hollow Core P neck.

I’ll report back once I figure out where to put the Status. It’s either the 5A koa / alder 60’s jazz or my Olive Green Squire CV 60’s Jazz (Chicago music exchange color). But then there’s the idea of the double reverse P in the works. I really don’t know. Gonna focus on the 1pc limba first.

It is definitely very light and with the super heavy 2Tek bridge the bass sits perfectly on a strap. I believe, and someone will tell me if i'm wrong here, the moses neck is hollow while the status is not.

I had a couple of Modulus basses, a silver sparkle Flea with the Lane Poor pickup and an Oteil Burbridge signature and I didn't love either of them, but i have played a Q4 many times and really liked it. I used to live in SF and was able to pick up directly from the modulus warehouse. My buddy worked there and built the Oteil I had from "factory second" parts but the issues were only cosmetic. I loved the look of the flea, but sold it 20-ish years ago.

besides this Warmoth, the longest graphite necked bass I owned was a Peavey G Bass but sold that 10 or so years ago for a song. Wish I had kept it.

edit: i do also have an 84-ish Steinberger XP that is pretty cool. I am keeping it for when i can't hold a full sized bass when I'm older!

My buddy has an early Q4 that was his dads that is epic sounding as well.

It’s not that I don’t love the Moddy, it’s just a beast to reign in. The filters helped huge and honestly beefed up everything in between the cuts.

Ooo that Steinberger, don’t let that go…

If you let the Moses go, let me know…. ;) lol.

I have a feeling I’m going to love the Status. Only thing that has me iffy is that although the neck is immaculate, the frets show mojo. Nothing I think will make it sharp or flat, but going to need to figure out a refret ar some point. Way the world is, I’m not keen on sending it overseas and I’m not sure if Rob Green will work on the CF since not making any more.

Perhaps Dorsch?

I’ve had the Modulus since 2017 I believe? I’ve sold it once to my best friend with the Q4 and bought it back lol.

When I decided to go with roasted flame maple, I knew that I was rolling the dice - I’ve seen some AAA flame maple necks come out of Warmoth with very little flame in them. I remember seeing a thread on here a few years ago about one that I think was purchased for like $700 and had like 6” of flame. Warmoth did take it back after much flak they took.
But this one was ordered “regular” roasted flame, not AAA or anything. I had an orgasm when I opened the box.

You lucked out in the most wonderful way. I’m hoping I have such luck with my clear 1 pc Black Limba. I have faith in the process :)

Understandable, it's gorgeous. Roasting sure enhances the flame too.

Ordered this neck back in the early 90's and requested birdseye maple. Turned out pretty good w/ some decent flame. I've since added a deep V contour.

the status on my order turned to packable today! Ordered November 24th and was quoted 12-13 weeks… yesterday way 8 weeks. Cruising right along. Once I get this in I’ll take pictures and share. Stoked is an understatement.

Can’t wait to find out what it weighs as well, 1pc black limba p body.
I'm keen to see the pictures when you can share them! I am a big fan of Warmoth 🤩

My wenge/ebony neck (ordered December 15) just went pickable. Planning to pair with a PJ body in Olympic Pearl I’ve got. Black Pearl PG should tie it all together.
Wow, it was only Wednesday? Felt like days and days went by. Got notified of the tracking for my neck just now.

Antici…(wait for it)…pation!

Ordered the body & neck for my Mooncaster build.

Body is mahogany with satin Lake Placid Blue finish, pearloid binding, dual F-holes, four knob holes, battery box, and no pickup routs.
Neck is roasted flame maple, ebony fingerboard with no dots, 30" scale, warhead headstock.

It's getting a pair of Novak BS-DS pickups (hence no pickup routs from Warmoth - I'll have someone local do it) and a Nordstrand 2b preamp, set up Volume (push/pull active) Tone (push/pull coil tap) Blend and T/B stack. I think for the niche I'm looking to fill with this thing having the neck pickup right at the 24th fret location was critical, so having it routed after the fact was a requirement. I know it's kind of weird to have a bass like this with a preamp but I like having the consistency across all my instruments. Can always turn it off...

Something like this.
