Warmoth won't drill pickguard holes and yes, the Gotoh uses the same standard five screw pattern as the badass II, Fender.....
I spoke with a Warmoth rep about no holes being drilled in the headstock for tuners, and he told me they couldn't drill those holes because of limitations in the licensing agreement they have with Fender.
How to drill the holes yourself? First, get the pickguard you want to use, and the control plate if it's a Jazz. Put them where they are going to be on the bass, and carefully mark the locations of the holes. When you are finished, take a step back and make sure all the marks are centered in the pickguard holes.
To actually drill the holes, you want to use a drill press, not a hand held drill. If you don't have a drill press, you can get one for under $100.

I 'spose I should post my Warmoth build here. I posted it on the main forum a couple weeks ago as a "New Bass Day" post.
So far, I'm really happy with it. As my flats deaden, I like it more and more. Seems like it take about 2-3 weeks of playing before they start sounding right to me.

Alder Jazz Body in Surf Green
Maple/Rosewood Neck
Lindy Fralin PU's
Gotoh 201 Bridge
Fender Closed Back Tuners
PG, Control Plate and pretty much everything else is Fender
D'addario Chromes
Do I get a number for this?

That's a beauty. Are you able to get the action low enough with that bridge? That's my biggest beef with the Gotoh 201.

Actually, I had to raise the action a hair on my E string - don't tell my tech!
Here's mine: Warmoth neck (maple, pau ferro fingerboard, block inlays, cream binding), Fender MIJ '62 Jazz Bass reissue body, Lindy Fralin pickups, Audere JZ3 pre-amp, Bad Ass 2 bridge, cream pearloid pickguard from pickguards.com, Gotoh vintage reverse tuners, Schaller straplocks. I've put the Warmoth decals on; turtle's on the back of the headstock. Plays beautifully, but weighs a ton.

I noticed mine is pretty heavy, too. I think it's those steel rods. The weight isn't heavy enough to bum me out - in fact, I've grown to feel re-assured by its heft when I pick it up. Feels and plays really solid
I hear that. The neck is amazingly stable wrt temperature or humidity changes. And I, too, always feel when I pick up the bass that it's solid as a rock and there'll be no issues.
Personally I wouldn't buy another neck with the steel rods. The graphite ones are just as stable and I think I also prefer the sound. Nothing wrong withe steel rods other than weight though. I have one with steel rods and 2 with graphite.
i haven't notice much abpout the new short scale models. Is there a separate thread about them or are they just not selling much. i am very interested in the 2 warmoth body styles especially the single cut but looks like it could neck diver in hiding. anybody help me out there.
You know what sucks?? Warmoth has so many cool body's and necks available for strats and almost nothing for basses! If you want some cool ideas you go look in the strat section then pay more using the builder! I wish they offered us bass players more cool stuff in the showcase!
i got a shipping notice the other day for my order that i placed in mid-april, i can't wait until tuesday! trans brown p-bass boday, black pickguard, maple p neck with maple board and black block inlays
nice looking bass. I have black block bound p bass neck and i love it and pbass necks in general. It is great neck but feels so big compared to all my other black block necks which are always j basses. i am sure it is just because it is so similar until you touch it but every one who sees it says Geddy Neck and then they touch it and sort of get what i am saying..

I get what you're saying. The Warmoth necks are more stout that the stock Fender neck and I noticed that right away. Way different feel. Again, I've quickly grown to really like the way it play. It plays like a rock.
