Here is a sample of the fatboy jazz combo. The chords are the Warrior, the first solo is the Warrior heavily favored to the bridge pickup (because that's the tone I was going for), the second solo is my Standard Jazz with flats on it (for comparison), the third solo is my MTD Saratoga (older, nicer version).

I was just noodling through some chords I stumbled upon. The playing is not great, but I thought I could offer some real world sound samples. Oh, and I did add some reverb in Garage Band. The signal goes through my GK MB200, then into my Lexicon Alpha, then into my MacBook Pro.

Thanks all. i have the fatboy jazz combo on swampash with maple neck. ive been a die hard warwick guy. im thinking my next warrior needs to be walnut with a wenge neck and maybe ebony board. i want a darker bassier tone then the swamp ash.....maybe woods will do this....maybe it needs the x55s then

The Bart XJ55's are dual coil
Nope. The X55J's are single coil.

However...

That said, there's also the X55C series, which is sold in both single and split coil, and I THINK those are the ones JD actually uses... the split coils.

The confusing part is the Bart website uses some confusing terminology. It says "in-line hum canceling dual coils". That's actually a split coil design by more current and accurate terminology. And it does matter, because dual coils are typified by both coils covering all strings and are usually "dual sensing". Split coils are "single sensing" and only have one coil of coverage per string, which makes them sound even more like a single coil (which I like). They do, however have the artifact of imperfect hum cancelling on basses with odd string numbers tho.

Anyway, FWIW.

a 1995 Warrior serial number 0018, an original handmade model 3 just came up for sale in a local shop this last week. a total fluke here.
they are asking 1595.00 anyone interested can PM me. I'll be happy to facilitate (and even handsign if you want or not your choice.)

this bass has a 9 piece neck with 5 piece body wings and it mostly wenge and bubinga with a bloodwood fingerboard and original G-Factor stringing system
Seymore Duncan Basslines pickups with the 3 band tone circuits EQ system with a slap contour push-pull switch.
this one was handmade by yours truly. and its as nice a piece as ever was built. it also comes with an original Planet P. Warrior gig bag in Blue.

I also happen to have photos of Victor Wooten playing this bass at the 1995 Summer NAMM. I can include it if you wish.

and to any mods. this instrument is NOT mine.
I'm only alerting other Warrior lovers to its pending salability. I could simply put the stores name down here, but if I do, then any rush of calls about it, will drive the price up, i know the owner very well and I'll be happy to do whatever i can to help.

I'd like to see my baby go to a good home. this one was truly one of my best.

Bruce, I didn't realize you were on here. You've done some work on my P-Bass some years back. You do some great work. Sent you a PM to ask about the bass.

Thanks, I can't wait to get it. They're finishing the frets today, and after that it's just assembly and setup. It should ship out late this week, or early next week at the very latest. The top on this one is extra thick, and that should be a good thing. I really dig the tone of walnut.

Forgive me if there has been discussion on this or a close topic already. I did a search but found nothing on this particular subject. I have a Warrior JDran custom 5 string buckeye burl with the signature big MM style pickup in the neck position and the oversized long stacked jazz bridge pickup. The bass is amazing playing wise. I love playing it but regretfully it sits in the case and barely sees the light of day. The electronics and pickup combination are horrid.

I think some of my complaints have been described before but here goes. By the way this is my second Warrior and other than electronics this bass is amazing and perfect (My first one had a rap sheet of QC issues I can’t even think about it anymore) Anyway the bridge pickups has low output and is maybe 2/3 the overall volume and output of the MM neck pup. Very uneven output that is more than annoying and my first was like this as well. I think it’s a design flaw as far as those pickups in combination with each other. Next the crystal circuit is to me a terrible coloring ugly thing as far as what it does IMO. The preamp is noisy with a high frequency buzz that I can’t dial out. When I mentioned this to Dran the son he said dial back the crystal level on the preamp (like I didn’t try it already) I told him it didn’t take care of the buzz and he changed the subject and asked me if I wanted to buy another bass…
:hmm:

Sorry getting back on track it can’t be dialed out period. The next issue there is almost no full lows without cranking up the mids I have never experienced any off these issues with any other Bartolini pickup/preamp combination so this is this set up. I’m not now a huge fan of this pickup combination I so wish I just got two soap bars but it is what it is. Can’t be changed now and I love the bass it plays soooo well.

So I have owned it almost a year and played it maybe 4 times. I own a bunch of other great basses so I’m not dying without but for the money I spent and the quality of this particular Warrior I want to play it but it is so bad in the electronics department it sits in it case collecting dust.
I recently pulled it out to dust off and play and man it’s one of the best playing basses I ever touched I need this fixed.

So I was going to just replace the whole preamp with a new 918 NTMB not crystal crap and run two volumes instead of the pan knob (which I always replace with two volumes I hate a pan knob most of the time) anyway I stumbled upon Mike Popes page on line and looked at the Flexcore preamp and was wondering if anyone else has had experience with the Pope preamp and or has experience with my same issues and what they have done to fix? Thanks and sorry for the long book of a post.
