Figured Maple burl top
Mahogany body, 35 years air dried
maple, Wenge neck
Marbled ebony fretboard
EMG pickups
reissue of the orgininal 1984 Pre amp from the JD thumbs
and it has the 1984 overall shape as far as body thickness and neck thickness is concerned.

i hope its good because i ordered one haha.

Personally, I've come to hate Warwick. Impossible to tell where anything is made, and their website is incredibly terrible.

On this particular bass, I don't understand why the tuners are so poorly aligned that the B and E and the D and G strings are literally just millimeters away from each other?

I absolutely love it...except that it costs $8K...

The strings in the headstock don't bother me...it's due to the headstock shape relative to tuning machine placement....it would be a problem if the strings were touching, but they aren't so it's a-ok. They would have to redesign the headstock and move the E, A and D tuning machines inward for the strings to get further away....then it wouldn't have a Warwick headstock...

Yes it is. My 2016 Custom Shop Thumb Nt was so amazing i figured another one couldn't hurt :)

thanks Viking, i wonder how the EMG's will sound as i have only ever used thumbs with MEC's.

Silly question but do they let you pick the top since it's a CS order?

Burl tops vary considerably. Some look breathtaking. Some just look bland. I've owned a few and kept one that was particularly nice, but they're tough to buy site unseen imo.

I was just about to reply with the same. For that much $$$, I would expect a better designed head/tuners. strings are way too close to tuners and a pretty good bend on those strings after the nut. Is it so hard to place the freakin tuners in a better position?
It would be a no buy for me.

i highly doubt it, the only thumb i have played that didn't dive is my Girlfriends custom shop thumb BO short scale.

they do, my girlfriend opted to purchase wood from their master reserve so she could choose the bubinga it was made from. With my Custom i wanted something from the reserve and i gave them the general idea of what i liked but i let them choose. Reason why is because if i didn't like it wouldn't be my fault haha, i would hate to regret my own decision.

out of the all the 5 String warwick basses i have owned i have never had issues with the strings touching, even when i go a heavy at 145. for the B string. for me, its not an issue. but i agree, it looks uncomfortable.

I think this is a very cool concept. How were the original 1984 Thumbs compared to later and modern Thumbs? What was the original JD pre-amp?

yes the original warwicks used EMG then Seymour duncan for a while. The 1984 preamp was less hot, and didnt have a mid frequency selector. Overall, the 1984 Thumb differed in the way the neck was slimmer front to back, had no volute in the neck and the body was thinner and more concave.

I think from the back it looks better than my thumb NT6. Really like the way that neck looks. But I do I prefer the front of mine, I prefer the darker bubinga and I'm not a fan of matching headstocks at all, I also prefer the price I paid for mine a LOT more lol. As for the EMGs if I remember right this is basically a throw back model. In the early years Warwick used EMG pickups.
