Washburn Club Thread

Hi, I have a washburn force 5 bass guitar. Some time ago the tuning key for the G string got stripped out. I also am having problems with the bass / treble / and tone knobs (they have no min or max stopping position, they just spin and spin and don't have a stopping point). where can I get these spare parts to try to fix this problem?

The tuners are grover's so you should be able to find them online. Open the cover on the back and see what the tone pots are ie 250k, 500k..etc. You can order them from allparts.com or stewmac.com. If you're not used to soldering wires find someone that can. Make sure you disconect the battery first. I just replaced a noisey/scratchy blend pot on mine. While I was at it I put a battery box in so I won't have to use a screw driver to replace the battery. The hole in the bass was big enough but the existing cover was larger. I ended up mounting the battery box through the coverplate. No wood work at all, I just had to cut out the cover plate and I superglued the box into it. Had to run the battery wires and replace the existing wires.

Wow, I had no idea this thread existed. I love my Washburn XB928. :D

Singapore checking in here. I have a Washburn Bantam Bass. Bought it from Basses NW in Seattle in oh the late 1990s. Used to be played by a churchman, from the legacy stuff bequeathed to me in the case when I bought it. Plays like a dream, light as a feather with a nice beefy tone. On a recording session in 2003, it was the only bass in a collection of 9 which I had which voiced well in studio. Very good bass - a former band I played in had a real issue with me using it - the sound, the look. Note that I said "former" :-)

Currently having it repaired as it has pretty much fallen apart.

To RCCOLLINS:------the B-20....it was YOU I sold it to, another TB'er? HOW COOL!! Except for the neck diving on me there is NO WAY I'd have sold that beauty! I still regret it sometimes. Hows it doing for you? I bet you get some comments, huh!? I also sent you an original ad/poster of it too, didn't I? PM me-be great to hear from you. I swear that has got to be one of the most beautiful basses.......

To GRAVEDIGGER: that, my friend, is a CHICAGO Force 40, not just a Force 40. You see in my post in this thread that I have one also and manoman I love it for the jazzy tone I can get on it. They are pretty rare. Glad to see another one in primo shape!

Beautiful bass but its not an SB40. The clue is an SB40 looks just like yours except the SB40 also has a small phase switch on it, has 3 knobs instead of 4 and your truss rod cover will say "SB-40" on it. I bought my first SB40 (1980) when they came out (I still have it) and finally found another in good shape not too long ago from Warrior Joe. Yours, I think, is a transition Wing series model and probably 1978 or 79? It should be neck-thru, fast-playing neck, 2 batteries---in all repects (except for the phase switch and number of knobs) as excellent a bass as the SB40-----do not ever let it go. Personally, I have never found a better playing bass that the whole Wing/SB40/Force 40 thing that Washburn put out thru Matsumoku. You have a gem.

Long story about the record keeping of Washburn which now only goes back to around '85-'86 when they changed ownership and converted records to digital early '90's. All other records pre-86 or so were gotten rid of if you can believe it. STUPID! And there is a "bible" on Washburn basses (I forget the author) which is quite spendy---and even it does not have anything on several of the basses including the SB40
