watching your old band

I say go with a few buddies, watch with a big grin on your face as they struggle wthout you.. and then be on your way!

I don't see the motive behind this unless they fired you. If you quit it just seems mean-spirited.

Did this with a band I played guitar for. They replaced me with another guitar player as I play bass regularly in another band. Alright, fine.

What I didn't know was the guitar player they brought in had one of those Roland Synth units.

They're cool, but my god just because you have a patch that can make it sound like a concertina doesn't mean you SHOULD.

this gig is a bike rally, and im interested in going if only to look at the bikes, which i didnt get to do last time.

Go, ogle the bikes, the biker chicks, drink and eat and make merry. If you happen to like how a song is going, stop and listen, otherwise just move on to the next bike.

Been there done that. Don't burn any bridges. I suggest approaching them with a positive comment. "You guys sound really good". After all you are not in that band anymore so what do you care.

drummer and guitarist are two of the most laid back guys ever, and wouldnt have taken sides either way, so i felt it was best just to go rarther than have a long drawn out battle.

plus we all work at the same place and i know i would have been labeled the "bad guy" if i had got him kicked out.

anyone done this?

first band i was in are playing the 2nd gig since i left.

no replacement on bass, and have even written their own songs.

a mutual friend has told me there are some terrible lyrics, but im reserving judgment on that one.

this gig is a bike rally, and im interested in going if only to look at the bikes, which i didnt get to do last time.

so do i take a few minutes to stand and listen to these guys, or will i look like im desperate to get back with them? (im not btw!)

Hmmm ... a band without a bass players and with bad lyrics. Not my idea of a fun night out.

A few years back I spent a couple of years w/one of the finer bands in western Michigan. Looking back I kinda made a dumb decision to look into touring gigs, and I got replaced. The following summer the band had a gig locally, and since I was still in good stead w/the guys I checked 'em out.. My replacement wasn't even close...lol... My wife was laughing at me every time I said "Ow.." when he hit a clinker or missed something I would have done.. Of course, these guys wouldn't be denied.. they insisted I get up there and play a few... Told 'em I didn't bring my fiver and had no intention of doing it... but... after trying to reacqaint myself on a strange 4-string, the guys insisted the next night I bring mine... sheesh...

I actually saw the first show my old band did after I left. We ended hanging out most of the night. They actually did really good I thought.

I go see my old band whenever I can. Sometimes I sit in. The music sounds a little different without me, but it's still really fun. Besides, I'm on the latest record (now at #11 on the Americana charts or something like that), so the more they sell, the more likely it is I might recoup some of my expenses, so I'm all about supporting them.

I say go have your bass and a DI in the car when you talk to the others you are on good terms with tell them how crappy it sounds without the bass. they will surely ask if you have your gear? Take the stage rock the house and make them even more sorry that you left!
