WawaWHUT? This is one confusing preamp!

Yes, the original ad is strange. Yes, the maker's posts have been unusual.

But since when is it OK to openly mock and berate another member, much less 17 pages of it, with a prominent forum authority figure leading the pack? This seems beneath the spirit of our collective.

Wow. So there actually are real humans in here instead of the usual forum trolls. Omega Monkey, which doesn't even has a pic of itself, probably is just a few lines of code...anyway, back on topic.

The maker of the preamp is not a fashion figure, nor a politician or salesman. He is a bass player and cellist that likes the low, fuzzy sound of old tube amps, instead of the treble spanking modern amps. His 18' speaker cabinet understates this.

I remember someone from Talkbass filming a session in a sound booth at Namm and he liked what he heard and no, we didn't point a gun at him. Esp. the electric cello's -starfish and ns design- sounded a bit deeper through it.
We're now trying the Nitewalker through a Fishman Loudbox Artist and a Hartke Kickback 12. Without the Nitewalker the Fishman sounds a bit nasally. I have no idea what creates the extra depth, if a tube can do that or the caps -out of spec or not- and of course, the 4 lines of evil code hiding behind an empty avatar now is going to tell me this is not possible! I'm waiting ;-D

A group of us moderators talked about your concerns, So this isn't just my opinion here.
I do understand your concerns, but I think in this case they're misplaced.
Go back and read the company's ad copy in the first post.
Claiming that you have the world's best preamp, but:
It needs to be used with a solid state amp/bass with humbuckers, or, a tube amp/bass with single coils; and; these specific strings; and furthermore, it would be best biamp'd into separate speakers for the highs and lows...
That sounds nothing like "the world's best preamp" to me; that sounds like a big pile of marketing malarkey. My day gig was in marketing for 36 years, I've seen some large piles, and that's one of them.
In a forum like this one, populated with people who make a living using such things, and people who design and build such things, I believe the results that follow are pretty much exactly what one would expect to see.
Were counter opinions offered with maximum snark? Perhaps so. But I don't think they were personally disrespectful or pejorative. Please feel free to report any posts you feel are out of line, and have them reviewed by a group forum staff other than myself; and in fact a lot of that happened as this thread rolled along.

Dear moderator-chef, thanks for getting together over this issue. I still agree with dreamadream99 since as stated, the maker is -unlike you- NOT a marketing specialist. He has not asked me about strings or anything and I guess by now he understands the original ad copy is over the top.
Of course everyone who has made an instrument, amp or effect, thinks it is the best ever, which is normal human psychology, to be proud of your product. Of course these claims will catch a lot of critique. And yes there are plenty websites that explain us in detail how to build our own pre-amps, effects et cetera. Your homes probably are stuffed with these....
regarding the product price, I expect a similar thread here about the Clon Centaur, or similar expensive products. Please keep this thread going like the pulse in a good bass groove. It is incredibly refreshing and funny.

Some of the comments you are seeing are the result of some preposterous claims made early on where the circuit he described didn't work the way he claimed (and couldn't), and that we weren't smart enough to understand the concepts. If you are going to come to a public forum and make claims, it's always a good idea to understand exactly how your circuit actually works or you are going to get called out by just about every engineer here (and there are quite a few really smart guys on TB).

General rules of engagement for forum success (general, applies to all forums)

Rule #1: Don't argue something that you don't understand.

Rule #2: Don't claim something that you can not prove.

Rule #3: Don't try to pull the wool over the eyes of forumites who know more than you do.

I think that attitude alone set the tone for everything that followed.

thanks, that clears it up. I completely agree with these rules. Forums are not for flame wars but for mutual assistance imho.
I've built guitar effects since I was 12, starting with a wah, then a fuzz, now a mutron biphasor, and have customised a philips tube amp, a att 'little willie', a london city and a home built marshall bluesbreaker. With the nightwalker I want to see what I can do get more tube distortion out of it. Thinking about changing to tube rectifier.

Please feel free to report any posts you feel are out of line,
I am not looking to report a violation of terms of service (not even the one which states, "address everyone on the board with respect")

Nor, am I looking to create my own violation of Rule #5.

I was merely voicing my own disappointment at fellow TBers mocking, insulting, berating, and humiliating another user publicly—even if that user deserved it.
