Way To Go Eden

So I'm at an outdoor Punk festival over the weekend with my sons. Ten stages, all kinds of craziness going on. We had a blast.

While watching a certain band I hear this amazing bass tone cuting through everything, coming from like three stages away.

I cruise over to investigate. Eden 2X10, Eden 1X15 plugged into a Eden Navigator of some sort.

It wasn't horrible loud when I got up close, but man did that rig cut through everything and sound amazing.

Most other bands were using Ampeg 8X10 rigs that didn't even come close.

Eden gets forgotten about because it's not new, hip, or ultralight (with the exception of the WTX 264/500 amps), but there's a reason you still see tons of people playing Eden stuff (myself included): it sounds so GOOD! I saw several bands at a festival this past weekend and their bassists were using older Eden rigs. If it ain't broke, don't upgrade it, eh? haha

Eden just isn't my thing tonewise, but they are super reliable and last basically forever.

A good friend of mine has gigged the same Eden head and cab hard for well over 10 years with zero issues.

I personally see lots of GK, Ampeg SVTs, a bit of Mesa and more and more micros out there lately.

Maybe many folks are switching from large Eden, SWR, etc. (heavy and not all tube) for smaller and more powerful micros.

I'm going "modified light" these days with my Navigator and Peavey IPR1600 with my single 12" cabs. I still love that thing.

Eden’s sound great for finger-style players and funk players. Great note definition but with a warm tone. Really great for modern style basses.
Rock and punk, not so much though. People who gravitate towards Ampeg and GK go for a different sound altogether.
I like all good sounds and all types of players so I dig the Eden’s. One GREAT player I saw pumped his GK2001rb head through a pair of Eden 410 cabs. Tone NIRVANA!!

My most favoritest amp I ever owned was an Eden 300vt. I played pretty rawckus stuff with it so I totally disagree with the sentiment that it doesn't work for rock...Mike Watt would probably have something to say about that too.

I have never had a better rock tone than with my WT800, though admittedly I usually don't go all 'classic' rock in my original band. But the thing some people tend to overlook is that while the basic Eden sound is great for some things and less good for others, the WT series also have one of the most flexible EQ's I know of. I feel pretty safe saying there is no genre that you can't play, and no tone that you can't successfully approximate with a WT amp, and whenever I hear someone say that the Eden tone is a love or hate thing, all I can think is 'user error'.

I recently picked up an eden navigator on the cheap. There not trendy right now so you can get sick deals.

My other rig is a 70s Ampeg v4b, and the navigator definitely holds its own. It can get super clean and nice and gritty. Not as gritty as the v4b, but that is what its for. SUPER versatile eq and compressor as well. Great for rock and everything else. :bassist:

Guess I'm the one that gets to burst ya'lls bubble. That's not how concert sound works folks. You might have been hearing a line from the preamp if you're lucky, either that or one straight from the bass with no Eden gear in the chain at all. Either way, it would've been further eq'd, processed, compressed to sit right in the front-of-house speakers. If it was exceptional tone, you were likely hearing a good sound engineer at his craft.

Not to dis'. A WT800 and 410xlt's were the got-to backline rig around here at one time. Never had an issue getting good sound out of them, rock or otherwise.

Eden Nav pre's do have pretty good D.I's that are attenuated from the front panel,although mine,I'm told,has some hiss over half way(12:00).I've been using an Eden WTX1000N,an amp I have not heard of much on TB.It's basically the Navigator preamp with a two channel power amp,[email protected]'ve been using it twice a week for a year an a half with no problems at all.This unit is not U.S made,but until I have a problem with it,I really can't complain.I also recently added an Eden WTDI to the lineup,hooked directly into a crown 1500.The sound guys seem to love it.:cool:

I was a long time Eden user and owned multiple heads and cabs until the quality and customer service went south. Always liked the tone but tired of dealing with cheap castors,amp covers, a 210xst with one wire loose on a speaker and being an Eden WT 1205 crash test dummy. I recently bought a WTDI that seams to work well.
